Note: I believe the surname was CHESHIRE and changed or misspelled in VA as CHESHER. Then CHESSER was the spelling used exclusively after the family left VA for Warren Co. Ohio about 1812-13. These Chessers are in the 1820 and 1830 Warren Co. Ohio Censuses. There were and still are misspellings of Chesser. These Chessers settled in Indiana in 1834. Other surnames that are allied to these Chessers due to other marriages of the above and those of their early children: Hill, Eberhart, Stiles, (Fitz) Randolph, Lee, Guile, Goodpasture, Laymon, Ingle, Lemar, Moore, Drake, Miller, Clarke, VanBenthusen, Kanouse, Kopp and more.
Note: The grandparents of the spouse of one of my Chessers were James and Frances (Cheshire) Clarke both born England (married abt.1804?).
You are welcome to contact me with questions or information about Cheshire, Chesher, or Chesser Families especially before or during the Revolution or other allied names listed above. Thank you.
