Does anyone have some Cheshires living in Kansas in the late 1800s? I am
looking for Jennie B. Cheshire who married Purley Burt Petty on 13 June 1894
at Sherman, Kans. They must have got a divorce in 1896 as I have an old
letter telling about a trial. It sounded like it was a battle over property
and a child, Jimmie. It is also mentioned that Jennie had been a school
teacher and her father's name was Johnnie. Johnnie and wife lived "over on
the Smokey". Does anyone know what that means? The letters mention a
brother but not by name. Purley Burt Petty lived at Brewster, Kans. and his
second wife was named Mae (last name unknown). I think Purley also had a son
named George which must have been from the second marriage. One letter
mentions that Jennie moved to Washington and I assume that was in Washington
co., Kansas. I would like to find descendents of Jennie Cheshire or Purley
Burt Petty to see if they can identify a photo. Thank you, Dawn
