Greetings,
I am Naomi Dement from Levin New Zealand
naomi.dement(a)paradise.net.nz
My ancestor James CHESHIRE was born about 1800 in Dunstable.
He married Jane HUCKETT (or Hackett) in 1821 in Dunstable. Jane Huckett was born in Barnett in Hertfordshire about 1799
They had three sons, Amos, James, Frederick all born in Dunstable, but none of them were listed in the parish registers as having been christened. The family moved to Tring where a further son John was born and not christened in the partish church.
The 1841 and 1851 censuses for Dunstable show numerous families of Cheshires, none of whom appear to have been christened in the parish church, although the parents were married there.
Could they have been Baptists or other non-conformists? I have searched all the films of non-conformist records available but have been unable to find any birth records of Baptist children in the years 1780 to 1830 for Dunstable. Does anyone know if such records exist and where they are? Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
Amos CHESHIRE was the father of my great-grandfather John CHESHIRE who emigrated to Rockhampton Queensland AUS from Kew, Surrey in 1885 with his wife Sarah TAME and 9 children.
Thank you Naomi
