Does anyone have CHESHIRE roots in Florida? My ggggrandfather was William
CHESHIRE b 6 MAY 1790 in Bladen County, NC. On 16 JAN 1811 he married Olive
HARDY. They had a daughter Lenorah (my gggrandmother) b 29 JAN 1830. They
emigrated to Hamilton County, Florida.
If anyone can connect I would love to hear from you.
Thanks,
Myrlin Shaw

I am 99% sure that my great grandparents were William BARLOW and Sarah
BENNETT. They married in March 1863 in the Cathedral of Manchester, had a son
named George, and then moved to Shropshire, where they were tenant farmers in
Holt Preen and Wilderhope. George was probably christened in the Cathedral
at Manchester. They had two more sons named Thomas, born in Heywood under
Eaton, Shropshire and my grandfather, John, was born in Cardington,
Shropshire December 11, 1871. In the census of 1871 and 1881, William,
Sarah, and George were all listed as being born in Malpas, Cheshire. I know
that Sarah was born and raised in Tushingham, Cheshire as she was there in
the censuses of 1841, 1851, and 1861 with her parents Joseph, from Broxton,
and Ann (probably Edwards)
My problem is finding John Barlow who was listed as a farmer and father of
William at his wedding. I have found a John Barlow married to an Anne Lee 18
Feb 1823 in Malpas, Cheshire and a John Barlow married to an Elizabeth Evans
5 Aug 1830. I have found a John Barlow married to an Elizabeth with a son
named William on a farm in Bradley, Cheshire in the censuses of 1851 and
1861. Someone suggested that Anne could have died, being the mother of
William, but I just don't know. Is there any more John Barlows that could
have had a son that married in 1863? He was listed as being 35 years old in
1863, but 40 in 1861, 42 in 1871, and 58 in 1881. I could not find him in
1891, although he was listed as a retired farmer at my grandfather's wedding
in 1899. He didn't sign as a witness.
Please try to help me, as I have been at this dilemma for over a year. Any
clues could be helpful.
Regards,
John W. Barlow, Tennessee, USA
Is anyone connected to the Cheshires in Thomas Co., Kansas? One of my
missing ancestors, Purley Burt Petty, was married to Jennie B. Cheshire in
Sherman, Kans. in 1894. They got a divorce several yrs. later. They had
one son, Jimmie, that I know about. It may be that Jimmie was raised by a
Hart family at Emporia or Topeka, Kans. I do not know if he kept the name
Petty or not. Jennie moved to Washington, which I think must be the town
or the county in Kansas. I am getting this information from some old
letters that my GGGrandmother wrote and they have been passed down through
the family to me. There is a mention of John Cheshire as being Jennie's
father. The letters mention him as living on "the Smokey" which is a river
in the area. I think he lived near Colby, Thomas Co., Kans. which is close
to Brewster, Kans. where the Pettys lived most of the time. There is
mention of Jennie's brother, but not by name. Jennie was a school teacher
and I have some letters of hers too and she wrote nice letters that show she
had more education than the Pettys. I think she ended up with some mental
or physical problems. I have not been able to find out what happened to her
or her ex husband, Purly Burt Petty. I can track Purly to the Phillipine
Insurrection and then to Audubon, Iowa and to Seattle, Wash. in 1915 and
that is where it all stops. Do any of you have any Kansas connections?
thank you, Dawn Wheat, geodawn(a)soli.inav.net

I am researching Thomas Cheshire who was born in 1826 in
Trefonen, near Oswestry, Shropshire, England. He sailed to
NY c 1844 and married Elizabeth Francis (b North Wrexham,
Wales) in Chicago, 9/27/1853. Children of this marriage
were: Sarah, Edward, Mary Ellen, Harriet and Margaretta.
Thomas died in Cleveland, OH in 1900.
Captured while scouting for the Union Army in Tennessee ,
Thomas was imprisoned at Andersonville. He escaped from
Andersonville, making his way to the Gulf of Mexico where he
was picked up by a Union ship.
Brothers of Thomas:
Isaac, born 1830, emigrated to Wisconsin in 1846, married
Ellen Davies about 1860. They moved to Mankato, MN about
1866.
John, born 1828, emigrated to Racine Wisconsin where he
married Mary Burton. They had a daughter, Sarah.
I would be happy to share what I have found.
Ed in CA
Maybe it's just you and me?
