I am descended from both Aaron Sr, Aaron Jr and John Thomas. Happy to help where I can with your research. Right now I am looking for an affidavit Homer Cherry had at one point (I saw it once on the web but didn't save a copy of it because I was new at this). The affidavit stated that Aaron Jr and another relative participated in the battle but were sick and thus not on the rolls. I know the research agrees that there was an epidemic in the Texan camp (measles? mumps? scarlet fever?). I wish I had a copy of the affidavit, not that I entirely believe it but just for documentation sake....

According to our family history, my great-great grandfather Thomas Cherry was born to Rebekah/Rebecca Rives. His father left or deserted them so Thomas became a bond servant on the Dabney plantation in/near DeKalb County, Tennessee. He was allowed to leave his servitude to join the Tennessee Volunteers during the Civil War. He was captured and part of a prisoner exchange, possibly at Vicksburg. After the war, he visited family near Bowling Green, Kentucky. There he and his first cousin, Rachel Rives, married. They then moved to Oklahoma or Indian Territory. They had a son Charlie and a daughter Della, my great grandmother. Della Cherry married John B. O'Dell, who was from east Texas (Honey Grove?). Their daughter, Ona Lou O'Dell, was my maternal grandmother, and she was born in Elk City. She married George Rufus Huckaby of Hobart, Oklahoma, and they settled, for a time, in Norman, Oklahoma. My father remembers his grandparents, Della Cherry O'Dell and John O'Dell, when he wa!
s a little boy in Norman, Oklahoma.
Somewhere I think I have a photo of Charlie Cherry at the Elk City homestead.
