It's possible that the attached photo identified as "Francis" is actually Frances Willard Cherry who graduated from V.T.S. in 1918. She was born 25 July 1899, in Franklin, Simpson County, Kentucky the youngest daughter of Rev. Jeremiah Taylor Cherry and Leona Celeste White. She married Paul Seaton Cartwright in 1917 and had two children, Francis Cherry Cartwright and Betsie Cartwright.
Frances Willard Cherry Brasher's "heart-warming story" of her life in the countryside of Kentucky at the turn of the century, The Preacher had 10 Kids was published in 1980.
She died in North Carolina in February 1995.
The male student in the photo is Walton "Frostbite" Fulcher.
