Interesting. I don't think your Aaron Cherry goes back as far as mine, who was born probably about 1735-40 ish. There were many Aaron Cherrys though.
Of further interest is your grandmother's married name Coward. My great great Grandmother was a daughter of Hardy Coward of Louisiana, near Lake Charles, and I can't think of her name now. She was the mother of Julia Anna Gill Iles my great grandmother who married Howell William Iles. Hardy Coward is a DAR patriot I believe but I've never filed on him. The Cowards lived in Mississippi and West Louisiana. Maybe her (my gg grandmother) name was Elizabeth Coward and she married Dr. John Gill, the Gills were from the Brookhaven area of Mississippi.

I am sorry I have been so long in getting back to you...when I first started researching my family tree I knew that my grandmother Minerva Pearl Griffin Coward was supposed to be some kin to Marion Crow..I spoke to his widow and found out that supposedly his mother, who was a cherry was half sister to my great grandmother, who, as she recalled was married to aaron Cherry and that her name was sarah (sally) well, I went to Milam County and uncovered a marriage license between aaron and sarah..and pursued that fact for several months...only to find out that my great grandmother, Minerva Pearl Griffin was the child of Henry Clay Griffin and Pearl Wiggins...this was from a death certificate that was filled out by my Aunt, my Mothers oldest sister, so I abondoned looking for the cherry connection...however, I heard all my life that there was a cherry connection..and I may discover later that there is...there is certainly no evidence of any other parents other than what i lear!
ned from minervas death certificate...so goes the life of an ancester searcher..thanks for your reply...edith

Ron, you have a totally different Sarah Cherry than ours. Different generation, different family or different branch. I have never heard of this branch since I am not related to them. Happy hunting.

I have Sarah Cherry in my line b. about 1870 (Green Castle, Warren County, KY)and married to Augustus Satterfield. They divorced 30 Mar. 1891. A son, William, was b. 5 May 1893.
I have found no other information about Sarah or the son.
I did find a Sarah Cherry and an Adam Cherry who appear to be related. I also found one document indicating that a Sarah Cross may have married and became Sarah Cross.
If you have information, I would be so happy to find out something.

If you will tell me the line between Ellen Alma Cherry and Aaron Cherry, we can figure out our relation. This is my line of descendancy from him.
Aaron Cherry
Sarah Cherry (b. circa 1803) m. Dempsy Iles (b. 1796 d. 1871)
Howell William Iles (b. 1833) (son) m. Julia Anna Gill (b. ca. 1838-1924)
John Gill Iles (son) (1867-1949) m. Julia Emma Miller (1886-1981)
Howell Cyril Iles (son) (b. 1909 d. 1994) m. Olga Mae Rodrigue (1919-2005)
Paula Marie Iles Restrepo (daughter) (1951) m. John Focion Restrepo (b. 1951)
Aaron Cherry was my great great great grandfather, and since there were several late age marriages in my line, there are not as many generations between me an him as there are usually with people of my age to that time.
I have the exact birth and death dates of the above except Aaron of course and used to have them in my memory but I put circa since I wasn't 100% sure, I'm pretty close. I know my grandparents and parents exactly though.
Well you are ahead of me on the research as you probably know as much as I do then, because I have never been to the Sam Houston library. Do you know who had the original painting of Aaron Cherry? It was noted that a Gilliland woman had credit for it in the book about that area, of which I have a copy. I had a negative made of that picture of his portrait. He looks like a wild eyed character. I do think that the Atascocita Census of 1820 proves that Aaron did not live to be 110 years old. I would think you might have more info on him since you live in that area. I had heard rumor that the Daniels family had a girl who'd married into the Cherry family and that they had some personal effects like Bible from Aaron Cherry that they kept pretty secret. That's hearsay though.

Thank you for your quick response.
I was born and raised in Liberty, Tx.
I have been to the Sam Houston Library in Liberty, many times, have viewed the many pictures of Aaron Cherry and looked at the geneology they have stored there.
I live now in Weatherford, Tx.
My gr.grandmother was Ellen Alma Cherry, married to my gr.grandfather,Zack Crow or "Grandad." I remember my gr.grandfather, as a child, However"Gran," as the family called her, had already passed. But, I viewed many, many pictures of her travels with mule packs and other places. My gr.grandfather owned many properties, including the "Crow's Nest,"the family ranch. I had visited there a multitude of times. My grandmother was Jewel Vitas Crow, daughter of Zack and Alma.
I want to know how far down the Aaron Cherry tree, we are related. I know about the grave marker that I personally viewed on the Daniels Plantation Ranch.
I have viewed the pictures in the Sam Houston Library and my dad's brother looks a lot like him!
I would greatly appreciate more info.

Margaret, it's been years since I fooled with this research, but I'll try to drag it out and send you what I have. Do you have an address? There is a library somewhere in your area that has a whole section devoted to Aaron Cherry. I can't remember the name of it presently. I'll get back with you. Send me an address to my email at Restrepo2009(a)aol.com. I live in Dallas, was raised in Port Arthur, TX. My grandfather John Iles was born in the Sugartown LA area and his grandparents were Dempsy Iles and Sarah Cherry Iles, daughter of Aaron.
Best.

Hi,
I am looking for the family of my 4th great grandmother, Merina Cherry (Gainer). She was born in North Carolina in about 1801, was married to Jesse Gainer in Davidson County Tennessee in 1819, and lived later in Henry County Tennessee and Van Buren County Arkansas.
I had thought her parents were William W. and Lydia Cherry, because William's will lists a daughter named Merina. I recently realized this isn't her though, because William and Lydia's daughter Merina never married and died in Stewart county TN in 1854.
Any information about the Cherry family in Davidson County TN would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Madeline

Hi,
There is no dishonor here - just an honest mistake. Aaron's great-uncle was the Aaron that fought in the Revolutionary War. Serious genealogists (as you are) follow the evidence (as you do).
My husband is the gggg-grandson of Aaron. We have a house in Liberty County and visit the Sam Houston Regional Library often. We also have tried to assist other persons in correcting the mistakes but to no avail.
If you have an opportunity to visit there, please do so. Lots of interesting records, much of which was compiled by Homer, including interviews with my husband's parents.
Best, Linda Dudley Cherry
