Message Board Post:
Just began researching my family, and it has been an eye-opening and incredible journey so far!
I am Christine (Cherry), and my great-great-grandfather was Edgar Willis Cherry, born in Auborn, NY on 16 July, 1835. He lived with Henry and Mary (Cherry) Hogle when he was 14, but the Hogles were not his parents, as Mary was only 7 years older than Edgar. He married Frances (Munger) in Wisconsin in 1856, and had two children (William and Jesse) before fighting for 3 years in the Civil War. His face is all over the internet on history lesson plan websites, because he received a gun shot wound to the face which disfigured him, and Frances wrote a letter after he died to request an increase in his pension.
With all of the information available, I cannot find his parents, and thus follow the Cherry name back to wherever it goes. I've gone further back than anyone in my family, so talking to relatives has given me no insight.
Any help with this would be very much appreciated!
Thank you,
Christine
