Hi back to Marion,
Concerning your post on Jun 23rd, after comparing
your Cherry line in France and England to mine, they are practically
the same, it is only when some from this line went to Ireland which I
do not have that informatin, but as you said I agree we must be related
through our French and English lines. Probably on into the Va. line,
where your line seems to go more North and mine goes South. I have
the same on another very large Family line, where the first ones in this
line came from England to Va., where some went to Ga., my line and
their Brothers went to Kentucky and North Carolina. But it is still the same
line.
Hopefully we can find a similar thing with our Cherry line.

Hi Marion,
I do not have any of my Cherry line listed in Ireland, but have my line in
Maidenhead, Berkshire,England from 1475 - 1665, then in France
John De Cherie b. 1386 France d. ? Maidenhaed England, the line
in France goes back to Thomas De Cherie b. France 1355 d. Maidenhead
England. Then the 1st Cherry in Va. listed as John Cherry m. Elizabeth
Faithful 1840 in Norfolk City, Va. Elizabeth b. Norfolk 1625 d. Norfolk Va.
680.
They had 11 children among them Thomas b. 1670 Norfolk Va. d. 1748
Norfolk Va. I have alot of Thomas Cherry's from England, to Va. Then a
large Cherry line in N.C, and in Ga. My GrGrandmother Mamie Cherry
b.1861 Bibb Co. Ga. d.1919 Bib Co. Ga. Her Father was George Cherry,
b. 1835 Bibb Co. Ga. d. 1884 Bibb Co. Ga. He was the Commanding Officer
of Floyd's Rifles from Bibb Co. Ga. during the Civil War. Mamie Cherry m.
into my Johnson line in Bibb Co. Ga. My Father is a Johnson in Bibb Co Ga.
I am not sure if our Cherry line is the same or not. Although I have just the
Cherry line in the Southern States, do not know if this line also went North.

I am just writing to say I appreciate your letter regarding these

ruses and
wanted E-mails and prefer to keep their E-mails private. I can

I remember your

Thank you Melissa for your helpful instructions I will do this.
Although I have never tried Ancestry's "Free Trial" or had an
account with them
I did find a very interesting Site, Legacy.com with an article
dated Aug. 2007 that has a blog titled "You won't believe this"
stating the same problem with Ancestry with many responding
to this. All with very negative things to state about Ancestry,
some even had whole personal family web-sites taken over by
Ancestry. In response to this Ancestry posted an article on the
same site, still dated 2007, calling their policy an "Internet Biological
Collection" and stated that with all the negatibve responce for this
they had deleted this program. Well looks like they are still up their
their "collecting" . I sent an e-mail to Roots, with a complaint about
this problem with Ancestry.

Hi Terry,
This is great news as you say that Mamie Cherry, my GrGrandmother,
is the Sister of your GrGrandfather Thomas Hardeman Cherry. As we
finally after years finally just made a breakthrough on our Cherry line, I had
to look at our Cherry Family chart to find that indeed Mamie had a Brother named
Thomas Hardeman Cherry b.Bibb Co. the same as Mamie.
If so that would make my Father, who is still living, your Great Uncle. Also you
and I share a kinship.
Would it be possible for us to e-mail and find out more. I would like to know
where you are located, and if you have additional Cherry Family history;
I do have a photo of Mamie and Thomas's Father George Cherry. Would
be great if you have additional photos and Family information. I will gladly
share all our new found and proven Cherry history. Would really like to get
to know more about the only known so far living Cherry family member,
which would be you of course.
My e-mail is gharris085(a)aol.com I do hope we can share family history
and my Father would be delighted to know about you also. Or feel free to
contact me on this Message Board and also let me know if you would be
interested in us exchanging family news through e-mail. Looking forward
in hearing from you.
I have met and am in touch with other cousins and
relations through my family history search on the Internet. This is one of the greatest
parts I have found of researching my Family history, actually finding previously
unknown family members.

I have been researching my fathers family tree for the past 10 years, always
oming up with nothing, until recently. I found out a couple of months ago that
he names given t0 me were inncorrect unless they show up in a much earlier
eneration. My paternal grandmother was Anita Ana Bel Thomas b.1905 in
larksville, Montgomery County, Tennessee. d. 1948 Honolulu Hawaii. She married
eward "Bash" Walker b. Abt 1876 in Covington, Indiana and d Abt 1930. Anita's
other, my great grandmother was Virginia Denham b. sometime in the 1870's or
880's. Virginia went by the name of "Jennie" She married Owendorf (Orendorff
homas in December of 1899 and divorced him sometime after the birth of Anita
na Bel. The union between Virginia aka Jennie and Orendorff produced 3 children
lton, Raymond, and Ana Bel, Both Jennie & Orendorff were believed to have
emarried. Virginia's parents were Elbert Denham b. 1846 son of Alfred & Lucinda
enham and Sarah Elizabeth Cherry Parker. Elbert Denh!
am & Sarah Elizabeth Cherry Parker also had a daughter younger than Virginia
alled Sarah Katherine I think. Any information that pertains to anyone in
his family would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance for any
nformation that can be shared.I have some more information I could share
specially on the Walker & Thomas families.

Found a good source to find more on our Cherry Family.
The Site is listed on Google as:
http://jhowell.com/tng/index.php
I found it on the Google Search page as the lst listing as
"Susan and John Howell's Genealogy Pages"
If you click on this, it shows the main page with a Search
option, I typed into the "Last Name" in search box "Cherry" and
then a very large listing of Cherry's is shown.
This is a very large Site, I also found members of another of
my Family Line on here .Hope this Site will be a help in finding
more Cherry Family history and names being searched for.
It does provide a good deal of history for each of the Cherry
Family members.

John De Che Rei b. about 1430 - N. Kilworth Eng.

I have been researching my fathers family tree for the past 10 years, always coming up with nothing, until recently. I found out a couple of months ago that the names given t0 me were inncorrect unless they show up in a much earlier generation. My paternal grandmother was Anita Ana Bel Thomas b.1905 in Clarksville, Montgomery County, Tennessee. d. 1948 Honolulu Hawaii. She married Seward "Bash" Walker b. Abt 1876 in Covington, Indiana and d Abt 1930. Anita's mother, my great grandmother was Virginia Denham b. sometime in the 1870's or 1880's. Virginia went by the name of "Jennie" She married Owendorf (Orendorff Thomas in December of 1899 and divorced him sometime after the birth of Anita Ana Bel. The union between Virginia aka Jennie and Orendorff produced 3 children Alton, Raymond, and Ana Bel, Both Jennie & Orendorff were believed to have remarried. Virginia's parents were Elbert Denham b. 1846 son of Alfred & Lucinda Denham and Sarah Elizabeth Cherry Parker. Elbert Denh!
am & Sarah Elizabeth Cherry Parker also had a daughter younger than Virginia called Sarah Katherine I think. Any information that pertains to anyone in this family would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance for any information that can be shared.I have some more information I could share especially on the Walker & Thomas families.

Hi Gayle,
I am just writing to say I appreciate your letter regarding these
arious lists and the
ncestry page handling of responses etc. I guess there are those who fear
iruses and
nwanted E-mails and prefer to keep their E-mails private. I can
ppreciate that but personally
refer the freer reign of information. I am a Cherry descendent however,
f I remember your
ine correctly you are interested in the North Carolina Cherrys. My
randmother was Elsie
ond Cherry b. in Iowa in 1870. Her line originates from Edward Cherry,
. 1687 in Antrim,
reland, Thomas Cherry Sr, b. 1717 in Antrim and when they came to Virginia
I do not know
ut Thomas died in Frederick Co VA in Oct 1759. I have the cpmplete
ine. Since I have not
ollowed all the children, I have often wondered if the North Carolina
amilies may not be a part
f this same line.
If there is a relationship and I can be of any help to you, please let
e know as I am always
illing to share.

I sent an e-mail to Roots, with a complaint about
this problem with Ancestry.

hen you set up an account with Ancestry.com (whether free or paid), the
efault" way to be contacted is too remain "anonymous" and keep your email
dress private -- to change your settings go to the ancestry.com home page and
ick on "My Account" then "Site Preferences". Under "Community Preferences"
lect the second option to allow others to contact you directly via e-mail.
ter selecting, click "update preferences" at the bottom of the page.

i to All,
As I posted earlier that Ancestry.com without my request or
permission posted a page when I clicked on my reply to this
Cherry List, that "I" wanted to remain anonymous and "took"
my reply and put it supposedly on their List. Which you can
can access this only if you are a paid member. Also this means
"I" do not want to be contacted by e-mail or any other means.
Which is not true. So for the record if anyone wants to contact me
my e-mail address is gharris085(a)aol.com and I will except the
e-mails from anyone on this Message Board concerning the Cherry
Family.

Hi Gayle,
I am just writing to say I appreciate your letter regarding these
arious lists and the
ncestry page handling of responses etc. I guess there are those who fear
iruses and
nwanted E-mails and prefer to keep their E-mails private. I can
ppreciate that but personally
refer the freer reign of information. I am a Cherry descendent however,
f I remember your
ine correctly you are interested in the North Carolina Cherrys. My
randmother was Elsie
ond Cherry b. in Iowa in 1870. Her line originates from Edward Cherry,
. 1687 in Antrim,
reland, Thomas Cherry Sr, b. 1717 in Antrim and when they came to Virginia
I do not know
ut Thomas died in Frederick Co VA in Oct 1759. I have the cpmplete
ine. Since I have not
ollowed all the children, I have often wondered if the North Carolina
amilies may not be a part

If there is a relationship and I can be of any help to you, please let

As I posted earlier that Ancestry.com without my request or

I hope you were able to change your contact preferences based on the information I gave you. Your login to rootsweb and ancestry is the same. Ancestry supports the Rootsweb site - they pay for the servers, personnel to keep the Rootsweb site free.
Ancestry did beta test this database that would "accumulate" and archive ("cache" much like google) pages, including blogs, that had "genealogical" content. Needless to say, although they were providing a service, providing the technology to search on the genealogical content of the web, many, many people did not like the fact that they were archiving their contact and putting it behind a pay way. Within a few days the "beta" test was gone and this database died a quick death.

Your "private" information is your email address. Ancestry claims that you don't want anyone to contact you except by posting a public message or sending a private message through ancestry.com, and for that both of you have to have a paid membership. Mine said that, too, and that is NOT what I had chosen. I wanted to be able to be contacted through email. You can change to that if you want.

The John Cherry mentioned as the author of this letter from circa 1927 was my grandfather. To my knowledge the Joel Cherry family bible has been lost. In the last few years I have been in touch with other cousins who are descendants from some of the 12 children born to Joel and Nancy Allen Cherry. None of us has the bible in question. Another cousin is a descendant of Nancy Allen Cherry's sister. I have a lot of interesting info on the family and especially the apparently stormy marriage of John Allen and Middleton Myrick. Note her name was wrong in the bible she never married a Wilson. Please contact me if you are interested. My addresss in cherrypit609(a)aol.com.

Hi All, I too tried this Site and found that it had been "moved". I went
to this new location and like you the Cherry Family Bible was not
included. I just saw this a couple of days ago. Thankfully I saved it into
My Favorites, went there clicked
on it and it still showed up as the old Site with the Bible. I will try to
contact the Site Administrator to see why the Cherry Bible is missing
from this new Site.
I did a[ Google Search] for "Cherry, John M.Family Bible Bibb Co. Ga".
On the Search page that came up, it is listed on there as I think the
lst one as:
"Bibb Co Georgia USGenWeb
Feb 16 2010 - Cherry, John M. Family Bible, Bibb Co. Ga."
I clicked on this listing and it took me right to the same as what I saw
before.
I did copy the information as it was listed for the Bible.
If you cannot find the Bible you can e-mail me at gharris085(a)aol.com
and I will try to make a copy for you or e-mail this to you. I did try to e-mail
this to a Family member but the print came out so small it is hard to read.
Hope you can find this, it has so much great history in it. Hopefully I can get
this Bible back onto the new Site List for this by contacting the person in
charge of this Site.
