I have been through West Point/Lanett several times. Lanett was named for my husband's GG Grandfather, LaFayette LANier and his business partner, Mr. BennETT
How do you connect to the Cherrys?
There is a cemetery near Lanett that maybe he is gburied at. many of the Reese kin are buried there.

Thank you so much for your help on this.
The 1860 Census says West Point is their Post Office. West Point, GA is where Co. D, 4th GA Infantry was recruited from. Your info. fits perfectly to solve my mystery. Troup Co. GA & Chambers Co. AL border each other.
By chance do you have any additional info. on James A. Cherry (c.1813 - ?), such as dates of birth, death & place of death?
Thanks again.
Sincerely,
Greg C. White

Message Board Post:
In June 1863 a gentleman from Alabama or Georgia named "Cherry" was traveling with his sons who were in Company D, 4th Georgia Infantry - CSA, during Lee's invasion of Pennsylvania.
In Company D, 4th Georgia belonged James A. Cherry, William C. Cherry and Samuel Cherry. Company D hailed from Troup County, Georgia.
I am seeking the identity of their father, who reportedly returned south before the battle of Gettysburg, PA, July 1-3, 1863.
Any assistance would be appreciated!
Greg C. White

Bless you, jlog_1! I have searched for so long for my grandmother's birthplace! Richard was indeed her husband, but he spelled his second name Louis. I will look forward to anything else you can send me.
How can I find the Alderney volunteers' family tree?

Amazing! I'm descended from Winifred's sister Louisa Jane, and I just found her GRO marriage reference numbers two days ago. I've ordered the certificate, but now here is all this information! If jlog_1 has any further information on the Mesney family besides what I will find in the Totnes records, I would be most appreciative.
I hope to find where Louisa Jane was born. She married Richard Louis Murrow in 1853 in Totnes. Per family history, she had four chidren who all died at one time, and then she had eleven more. I've found the eleven, but would love to know about the first four. She died 10 Aug 1878 in Belfast.
