There were Cherry's in my ancestry that were in Alabama. They has moved from coastal North Carolina to Tennessee, then to Alabama.
Joshua W. Cherry and his family moved to Sumter County where Joshua died in 1846. His son Jared came with him One of Jared's sons moved to Louisiana and then on to Texas. A good number of the family stayed behind in Alabama.
They were descended from the John Cherry who came to Virginia in 1635 from England.
There is a reference to them in "Pioneer Families of Sumter County Alabama, Vol. 1", by Nelle Jenkins.

If anyone is looking for a Mrs. Eliza P. Cherry in Montana, I added one from a cemetery headstone to the findagrave wesbsite. I cannot find anything on her. But, according to her headstone, she passed away October 2, 1900 and was 67 years old. She was buried in the South Boulder Cemetery, Madison Co. Montana.

A few years ago I attempted to locate the missing document referred to in many posts only to discover that the court records were destroyed by fire during the reign of William in 1702. An inquiry to the one court in Bristol that could possibly have the info went unanswered. The Berkshire Historical Society could not find any info. If BCherry168 would contact me off-line, I would be glad to compare notes. I can be reached at cherrypit609(a)aol.com

I am sorry it has taken so long to respond. I have been on many quests over the last four years and just noticed your post. You mention Joel Thomas Cherry and Susan Council McCallum marrying in Macon, GA in 1837. They are one set of my great, great grandparents. The Hilliard Cherry mentioned was a brother of Joel Thomas. They are both sons of the marriage of Joel Cherry, born 1868 and Nancy Allen Cherry, born 1783. There were 12 children all together. The family lived in Camden/Kershaw in South Carolina. 4 children were born prior to the 1810 census. The family moved to that part of Mecklenburg County, NC which became Union County. I do not know of the other names you listed.

If you are responding to my post, the only place left out was where the license to be a tobacco merchant was purchased, and I believe that was in London.

There was a John Cherry from Berkshire that died in England.
I would love to see a link if you have established who our John Cherry is. I have not found a definite link to the Berkshire Cherrys, although that is the popular tree on the Internet.
If you can direct me, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Frank John Lackner, born 1887 Cherokee Kansas. Sisters, Anna Lackner Montee, Lorena Lackner Cherry, and Mrs. Harry Muse. Wife, Fern Helen Salem. Mortuary records state his father's name is also Frank J. Lackner with "unknown" mother. This may not be correct. He and his family lived in Butte, MT, Ardmore, SD and Joplin, MO. Does any of this information fit into your family tree?

I have failed to find any connection between John Cherry who arrived in Virginia in 1635 and the Thomas Cherry and Ellen Powney of Bray. This seems to be a popular connection, but it just doesn't fit.
In continuing to search, I found a John Cherry who bought a license to deal in tobacco in Virginia, purchsed in London, in October of 1634. This is in the Va. Colonial Records of the Library of Virginia.

This John Cherry was from Buckinghamshire.
In checking the Family Search Records, I find three John Cherrys from Buckingham that could fit.
John Cherry, father is Thomas, christened in Bletchley, Buckingham in 1617:
John Cherry, father is William, christened in Bletchley, Buckingham in 1619; and
John Cherry, father is Francis, christened in Bletchley, Buckingham in 1611.
I would guess that one of these is our John Cherry, but have not been able to go any further to date.
Does anyone else have any information that might confirm or deny this possible line?
