My Cherry family includes my ggrandfather William Boyd Cherry b-1864 Ohio, d-1939 OK, married to Jennie Olive White b-1864 Ohio, d-1940 in OK. My grandmother Leila (Cherry) Kelley b-1896 Coshocton, Ohio, d-1963 San Gabriel, California, was an older sister to Ruby (Cherry) Johnson. My father Leland b-1918 Sapulpa, OK d-2001 California, was Leila's youngest son. I have information on Ruby's siblings and a family photo taken about 1905 of William B, Jennie O and children which my Aunt (she is the only living child of Leila's) gave me about a month ago. I also have the news clipping of the car accident in which Ruby died and the newspaper obituary notice. Along with that I have the family's original typed obituary for Ruby which states they came to OK in 1904 from Ohio. I also have some pictures of William B. and Jennie. Please email me if you have any questions.

Appears in "The Ravia Herald" 17 October 1908, Ravia, Johnston County, Oklahoma
INDIAN KILLED AT NORTON
Last Sunday evening at Norton Jeff Cherry, the postmaster, shot Noah Tioga, an Indian, from the effects of which Tioga died Tuesday evening.
The causes which led to the killing, so far as The Herald has been able to learn, go back to former trouble between Cherry and Tioga while Cherry was living at Mannsville. It seems that at that time Mr. Cherry was town marshal or precinct constable, and in arresting Tioga, or some kind of trouble with him, struck the Indian with his pistol, and rumor says that from that day to the shooting ill feeling existed between the two.
Last Sunday Tioga and two other Indians were at Norton and Tioga, being under the influence of boot-leg whiskey, so report goes, tried to get into a disturbance with Cherry. The other Indians got Tioga in a buggy and started off with him when Tioga told Cherry that either he or Cherry had to die. They didn't go far before Tioga got out and started back to Cherry's store. Cherry saw him coming and called to him several times to stop, but Tioga kept advancing and when he started to get up on the porch Cherry told him again to stop, this time snapping one barrel of the gun, which was unloaded, thinking that would stop the Indian. He attempted to get on the porch and when he did Cherry raised his gun and fired, but J. B. Keitn who was there, attempted to knock the gun down, causing the charge to enter the lower part of his bowels, from which he died Tuesday evening. After being shot Tioga walked a few steps to a blackjack tree, where he steadied himself, and then started ag!
ain, falling down an embankment fifteen or twenty feet. When parties got to him his entrils were hanging out in the sand. A physician was summoned and his wound dressed, but as stated, he died Tuesday evening.
The examining trial came up at Tishomingo Wednesday.
Mr. Cherry gave bond Thursday to await action of the grand jury.

If you contact the Bellwood Antis Library at 814 742 8234 and ask for a contact person with the Bellwood Antis Historical Society that meets the 4th Monday at 7PM at the BA Library. It is an active organization and are setup at the annual Bellwood Antis Picnic held each summer at Del Grosso Park in Tipton. Check Bellwood Antis in a search and you may find more information and places in the area that may give you persons who know details. There are Cherry family members that have their history, as I have seen it on the internet.

Ocie E. Martin was born in 1899 in Arkansas to Lillie Bell Martin who was born in 1875 in South Carolina. Ocie or O.E. Martin's Father's name ??? O.E. may have been born out of wedlock. Lille Bell married George W. Cherry between 1899 and before 1902. Four children were born during this marriage some-where in Louisiana. I beleive they moved back to Arkansas where Lillie Bell and two children died before 1910 with yellow fever. It is beleived (even though there are no headstones that Lillie and the two children are buried in Rock Springs Cemetery in Montecillo, Arkansas. Two children survived, Ora Lee Cherry amd George Martin Cherry. They spent a little time in an orphanage but are listed in the 1910 census with their Father Gerge Cherry in 1910 in Drew County Arkansas. George married Gatsie Clarender Livingston in 1913 in Mississippi who raised Ora and George Martin. O.E. or Ocie was sent to live with relatives after his Mother's death. The next time I can locate him is the D!
allas, Texas census in 1930 living with his wife Gracie Taylor, two children Louise and Irvin, Father-in-law Walter Taylor, Robert and Elmer Taylor who were Gracie's brothers. Any information I could receive on any of these people who be greatly appreciated.
