Family Tree DNA can do the tests you need, and alert you, if you choose, to any matches. You can also then put your results into The Genographic Project. The site is:

I have found some Cherry relations by doing this. For the Y DNA I would recommend testing to 37 markers.

The most effective DNA search would be a test called the Y-DNA test. You need a line of Cherry men, so those of us who descend from daughters of Cherry men, can not assist directly.
If you have cousins that descend from the male line of Cherry, all that would be required is to take a painless cheek swab and mail it into the lab.
My William Cherry had brothers Spencer and Riley - they were all born in North Carolina but I find them as adults in Washington Georgia and they move to the Bibb/Houston Counties area by the 1840's.
regards,
Gaila

I have a Cherry line from Bertie NC. My grandfather was Willie Cherry, and Charlie Cherry and Sarah Cherry, both maiden names, are my great grandparents. My great great grandfather was Madison Cherry. His mother was Judia Outlaw. Wright Cherry is part of my family but not in my direct ancestry line. This line was extremely light skinned mixed race Indians, likely Tuscarora.
I do not recall coming across those specific names, but that only means "yet". The problem is that in Bertie, Cherry is almost as common a name as Jones.

Nancy F. Cherry (born c. 1812) married Isaac J. Dale (born 1796, son of James & Sarah Johnson Dale) in Sussex County, Delaware on/about 12 Jun 1833. They later moved west to Knox County, Indiana. They had eleven children, including Stephen C. Dale.
Can anyone provide any additional information on Nancy, and/or the Cherry family she connects to?
Thanks,
Rob
