Mattie Logsdon, the author, was my gf's half-neice (his dad Isaac Cherry married four times) and he knew her well. Half the book describes the ancestors (Cox, Cohea, Woolsey, ...) of Isaac's first wife Martha Jane Cox and are no relation to me.
According to the Moravian church archives Henry Boyer Jr. married Margery Milligan. Lewis Mullican, Rowan Co NC 14 July 1796, mentions her as a daughter in his will. He still owned land in Prince Georges Co, MD. Henry and Margery Boyer had two daughters baptized at Hope (Moravian) church in Rowan Co, NC, Mary and Elizabeth. This seems to contradict records stating Eliz. was born in Rutherford Co. TN. Elizabeth Boyer married John W. Cherry.
In the 1880 Census Mary Ann Hines Cherry says both her parents were born in MD. I found an 1820 census record putting an Anthony Hines in Sussex Co. DE. 1830 and 1840 census data place him in Howard Co. MO.
Sorry, yesterday I was quoting from memory. I won't do that again without double-checking.

I would like to have a copy of the entire book. I only page about 98 pages that I copied years ago. Where did you find your copy of the book?
Secondly, Mary Ann Hines mother, according to what I have was Anna Catherine....and you say that Milliken or Mulliken (somewhere I think I heard it was Mulligan)may be the possible last name. Do you know your source for the Milliken or mulliken for Mary Ann Hines' mother? I also have Anthony Hines for Mary Ann Hines' father.
Here are some notes I have typed in my PAF file for Joel Lilly Cherry:
"JOEL LILLEY CHERRY WAS BORN ON 19 DECEMBER 1824 IN HOWARD COUNTY, MISSOURI. FROM GOODSPEED'S HISTORY OF NORTHWEST ARKANSAS, WASHINGTON COUNTY 1889, WAS FOUND:
JOEL L. CHERY, A PROSPEROUS FARMER AND STOCK BREEDER OF WASHINGTON COUNTY, ARKANSAS, IS A SON OF JOHN CHERRY, WHO WAS BORN, REARED AND MARRIED IN TENNESSEE, AND AFTERWARD BECAME A FARMER OF HOWARD COUNTY, MO. HE WAS A SOLDIER IN THE WAR OF 1812 UNDER GENERAL JACKSON, AND WAS AT THE BATTLE OF NEW ORLEANS, AND DIED IN 1858. HIS WIFE, ELIZABETH BOYER, WAS BORN IN TENNESSEE, AND BECAME THE MOTHER OF TEN SONS, FOUR OF WHOM SERVED IN THE CONFEDERATE ARMY AND ONE IN THE UNION ARMY. SHE DIED IN 1868 AT THE OLD HOME IN LINN COUNTY, MO. JOEL L. CHERRY WAS BORN IN HOWARD COUNTY, MO., SEP 19, 1823, AND WAS REARED IN LINN COUNTY, MARRYING THERE IN 1842 TO MISS MARY A. HINES, A NATIVE OF HOWARD COUNTY. SHE BECAME THE MOTHER OF NINE CHILDREN, SIX OF WHOM ARE LIVING:
ISAAC, LEWIS, JOHN T., ELIZABETH (WIFE OF WALTER ASHER)., SUSAN (WIFE OF JOHN COHEA) AND MARY (WIFE OF MURRAY COWAN). MR. CHERRY RESIDED ON A FARM IN LINN COUNTY UNTIL THE FALL OF 1860, WHEN HE CAME TO WASHINGTON COUNTY, LOCATING ON THE FARM OF 200 ACRES WHERE HE NOW LIVES. HE HAS 120 ACRES UNDER CULTIVATION, AND IS IN A PROSPEROUS CONDITION FINANCIALLY. IN 1861, AS HIS SYMPATHIES WERE WITH THE SOUTH, HE JOINED THE CONFEDERATE ARMY, AND WAS A FAITHFUL SOLDIER UNTIL THE CLOSE OF THE WAR. AFTER HIS RETURN HOME HE AND HIS SONS BEGAN TO IMPROVE THE FARM, WHICH HAD SADLY DETERIORATED DURING HIS ABSENCE, AND THEIR EFFORTS WERE ATTENDED WITH GOOD RESULTS. THE FAMILY ARE MEMBERS OF THE PRIMITIVE BAPTIST CHURCH.
IT IS NOTED THAT THERE WAS ONE ERROR IN THE ABOVE EXTRACTED ARTICLE, WHICH WAS THE FACT THAT JOEL WAS NOT IN WASHINGTON COUNTY, ARKANSAS IN 1860, HE AND HIS BROTHER, JESSE, WENT TO TEXAS SOME TIME BETWEEN 1850 AND 1860. JOEL WAS STILL IN TEXAS THOUGH HIS BROTHER HAD RETURNED TO NEWTON COUNTY, MISSOURI."
A picture of Joel Lilley Cherry's gravemarker has the following on it at the bottom (picture taken by Shirley Sears)
"A precious father from us has gone
A voice we loved is stilled
A place is vacant in our home
which never can be filled."

who has postings in "Family Search". When I do a search in my PAF that connects to internet family history sites, Mrs. J. Burgess from Stigler, Oklahoma keeps coming up for both Cherry/Hines and Cowan searches. Does anybody know who she is and if she is still in family history research or if she is still alive?
I think I tried to snail mail her something a couple years ago and got it back in the mail as undeliverable.
Any clues would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,

I own a copy of this book. If you have any particular questions I would be happy to look them up for you. Joel was my g-g-grandfather thru his son Isaac.
Most of the book is well-documented. The author makes it clear when she is guessing from the available info. In my opinion, the links between Joel's father John W. and the original John Cherry who came over to VA from England are a bit hazy and need verification.
The Boyer/Bucher (John W. married Eliz. Boyer) family from Switzerland is referred to in church and government documents.
For the Hines family (Joel's wife Mary Ann) I've found only a little about her parents in MO and DE. Her mother was a Mullican/Milliken/... from MD but her exact link to the large family there is still a mystery to me.

If you can not access, you might try going to one of the search engines like Google, Dogpile, or Ask.com -do a search for passenger lists or ships from England to America. That is how I found the website orginally.

I have to put in my two cents on the messages-This affects me how....I agree there is a lot of erroneous data out there being sold by so called "professionals". I do however pay for all of my copies from various libraries, research centers, etc. I am just an amateur researcher, but I have tons of data, which I do not mind sharing.
Anyway, I hope this helps clear up some of your questions. If I can be of further assistance, please let me know.

Did any of your Cherry line marry into the Chandler line?
There is a man named Joseph Barron Chandler who has done extensive research on the Chandler line that lived in the Tidewater, Virginia area. He has written newsletters - these can be found in many libraries-I know they are at The Texas State Library in Austin, Tx.
I do not know if he did any research on the Cherry line. You can go to the Chandler board and find his email address-just look for John Chandler and then him as the author.
Hope this helps some.
When I saw Nacogdoches with his name I figured it was the same John Cherry.
I did subscribe to his newsletter a few years ago for about 3-4 years ago
but never found *anybody* connected to my Joseph Cherry even tho he and his
family were mentioned in it more than once. If he didn't have so many darn
descendants I'd think the man never existed! I knew John was ill when he
stopped the newsletter, didn't know he'd gone online. Thanks again, Ann

On the chart, the page was too large to scan in its entirety, I had to fold it in half and scan each half separately. If you enlarge it, then print it, you should be able to tape it together and have a full chart.

Searching for any information about the parents and other ancestors of James Cullen Cherry. Apparently, he appears for the first time on census records during the year 1880. I cannot locate him on a census prior to that one. Supposedly, he was born at or around Obion Station in TN.
James married (1st) Nannie Susan Trammell 10 Mar 1879 at Fort Smith, AR. They had the following children:
Ulphin Dennis Cherry
William Ocie Cherry
Otto Cherry (died at 22 years)
James Cullen Cherry, Jr. (died in infancy)
David Crockett Cherry
Luther Cherry (died in infancy)
Elmer Cherry
All of the children but Ulphin were born in or around Paw Paw, Cherokee Nation (later Sequoya County, OK). Ulphin was born in Mansfield, AR.
James married (2nd) Emma Sarah Walker 04 Jul 1907 and raised Emma's four children by a previous marriage:
Anna Melsena Taylor
Ellen Agatha Taylor
Laura Etta Taylor
Allie Bell Taylor
James may have been married to another woman in between Nannie and Emma.

Rick,
I am going back catching up on old posts.
I would like to offer a suggestion for copying your book.
One of photography software programs that I use frequently, is PhotoElf. The creator, Rick is great for support.
Here is a link for a free trial version:
http://www.photoelf.com/download/download.shtml
You can scan the pages, save as a jpeg. This will allow you to print the pages or you can create a slide show on a CD, which will play on DVD players or your computer.
The program is very user friendly and great for photos, documents, etc. used in family history research. I use it to edit old photos, lighten photos that have been shared with me that are two dark to make out images.
It is great, worth trying out the free version.
I also use another program called Pagis, that is great for scanning documents, it has a Text Bridge for converting to Word.
I hope you will share a copy of the book with me, if there are any expenses, please let me know and I will be more than happy to pay them.

I subscribed for a couple of years but could never find a connection of any of his CHERRYS to my Joseph CHERRY, b abt 1817 in England (so he said on 3 censuses). I'd like to join your website John, my e-mail address should show here if you see this. I've been looking for 15 years for Joseph!! Married Amelia KILLION on 19 Aug 1841 in Madison Co., Illinois. Her father was Michael KILLION, b abt 1779 in North Carolina. Also, the copies of those pages posted, did anyone get a readable copy? It started to come in clearly, and then went too tiny/blurry for me to read. If it's the history of Thomas Cherry of Maidenhead, and the origin of the name, I believe I have a copy of that somewhere that an uncle of my husband's gave me back in 1995 at a CHERRY family reunion in Nebraska!
