I grew up in Montgomery & Liberty County in Texas one of my family members has a news paper article of a very large Cherry family reunion in the '50s which took place in Cleveland, Texas the County seat of Liberty County.
I must agree to the error of Aaron Cherry's age My mother told me of the mistake when I was young.

Hi SHelley,
Gee, none of these names look familar to our line. All I can prove in my family is to Aaron Cherry, and I have documents for that, that he was my 3rd great grandfather. He lived in Ohio for a while, and the theory is that he followed a brother who received a land grant for service in the Revolution against the British (1776). There is a story in tradition that he fled Ohio somwhere about 1800-1810 to Louisiana, because he shot and killed a sheriff in revenge for having arrested his 15 yr old nephew for allegedly horse theft. The story went that the sheriff had the teenage Cherry up on a horse with hands tied behind his back and as he was leading him into custody, the horse he was on spooked and took off running and he fell off the horse and was drug to his death. High drama huh. I do find Aaron Cherry living next door (next farm?) to my Iles ancestors in 1810 Louisiana Census. Aaron's daughter Sarah married my double great grandfather, Dempsy Iles Sr. and I have a w!
edding license for that, with Aaron's mark (illiterate?) but no mention of his wife. Aaron then shows up in the 1826 Atascocita Census in the Liberty Texas area, and he purportedly was a friend of Sam Houston's (there is mention of him in the writings of Sam Houston of which I have a copy) and also he was to have done slave trading with the pirate Jean LaFitte in Galveston. I checked history and Lafitte was in Galveston during this time period. In this 1826 Census Aaron has a younger wife, so it is assumed that his previous wife (first?) who was Sarah and her brothers' mother, had died. I have a picture of a painting of a man who is supposed to be Aaron Cherry, which appeared in a book written by a descendant of this Aaron, she was from Liberty, Texas, named Gilliland, can't recall first name. But when I tried calling Gillilands in that area about 10 years ago to inquire where she got the painting, was told by her daughter in law that she had died, and the daughter in!
law knew nothing about the portrait. But he looked like a crazy dude
. Long beard, and a wild look in his eyes. I also found a copy of the book. It's about the history of that area. I have a feeling there were several Cherry families of that time and also possibly several Aaron Cherrys. There used to be a guy named John Cherry in the Fort Worth Area who wrote a quarterly about Cherry family history, but he determined that he was from a different branch then mine, but he included input about all Cherry families. He was retired, and he moved away from Ft. Worth, and I do not know if he is still alive. I also find that the research on the Texas Cherrys of Liberty County, which is near Beaumont, has mistakes in it. It was done in the 50's by a guy named let's see, Homer Cherry. He travelled after his retirement doing research, but he attributed my Aaron Cherry's life span to be 110 years old, which was totally false. He apparently had not discovered or it had not been discovered, the 1826 Atascocita Census, which was part of the foundin!
g of the Republic of Texas. Because in that census, Aaron's age is given and when you figure it in with his death year, it doesn't even reach 100. This Home Cherry guy, long dead, even got the FEderal government to erect a monument to Aaron and it has inscribed his erroneous birth and death dates, which is ashame. Because I really stress accuracy in genealogy research. Of course as time goes on, new records and proofs are discovered all the time. I haven't done any research in about 8 years since we adopted our daughter. I haven't had time for it. And I loved it and hope to return to it some day. My gut feeling is that my Aaron Cherry was a true eccentric and firey personality. I'd give my eyeteeth to know who has that portrait so that I could validate it. Many times descendants are very secretive and protective of things like that. The daughters of former Texas governor Price Daniel ilve in Liberty, Texas and I have been told that they are supposed to be descend!
ed from Aaron Cherry and that they are very secretive about things li
ke family Bibles etc. That is ashame. Sounds like the Appalacian mountains and backwoods people.
However, as I said, I do not recognize the names you list. Also, I cannot prove any of the things I've read and heard about the connection back to Ireland and France. It's interesting, but I won't take it as fact until I have proof. Good luck in your future research.

While I have never been able to connect my husband's great grandfather, Joseph CHERRY, born 1817-18 in England, to either the Thomas de CHERIE or Aaron CHERRY TX line, I do have a paper somewhere that a relative gave me in 1995 that says the original name was de CHERIE (French) and it was "of royalty". This would correspond with the OK book mentioned. My understanding is that the first known CHERRY in the USA was a John CHERRY, also in the 1600's, possibly the 1620's.

I hope I am the Cherry your looking for as my husband has Lemuel Cherry as a direct ancestor:
My understanding of the Cherry Family is that there were five brothers that were given passage to VA in the 1600's for military service. The five brothers each then went there own way after VA to NC. One brother went to Ohio, one brother went up the east coast, one brother stayed in VA/NC area, one brother, my husbands branch went to TX and one brother came to Arkansas/Oklahoma area. There is a Cherry Family History book in the Oklahoma Historical Genealogy library that was written by a lady, who has passed, but the family lives in Tulsa, I have spoken with them, the information all corresponds with the other books out there on the CHERRY family from Normandy gaining safe passage to England, a royal blood family fromt he Vale of DeCherrie in France then moving to the VA area in the 1600's. My husbands branch is as follows:

I too have been met with dead ends on the Aaron Cherry, all of them and the family tales/stories that have surfaced.
My husbands branch is as follows which includes an Aaron Cherry, however the lines haven't been proven:
