Hi I have been researching the Smith family from Allen County Ky. My grandfather was James Porter Smith who lived most of is adult life in Clay County Tn.He was married to Hallie G.(Bean) Smith. I came across an article about the death of George R. Smith that was the brother of my grandfather James Porter Smith. In the article there was a step daughter Sallie Mae Cherry.I am interested in finding out the name of Sallie Mae Cherry's mother. George R. Smith was married to a Hermie ? at the time of his death. He died in 1954.Other family members mentioned in the obituary were Mrs. Tom Nash (step daughter) Hallie Bowden (sister) and Myrtie Petitt (sister). I am trying to fill up my family tree and would love to put Hermie on one of the branches with her maiden name. Thanks so much for any help.

Yes, I believe it does reference al line going to KY. I'll re-read and find the appropriate info and post it, I have been concentrating on my line most recently, i.e.:
Thomas Perrin Cherry - > Ralph Cherry ->James Bartlett Cherry -> James Lewis -> Richard -> Richard Jr. -> Richard III (myself).
Ralph had 14 or 15 children, only two are documented (from my perspective) , but a descendent of James Bartlett, has told me that several of the brothers moved south to KY and TN. I believe one of them was a Franklin/Frank Cherry and possibly John H. Cherry - But the info is somewhat murky at this point.
I'm currently typing the book into electronic form (PDF) and can be viewed at:
http://RootsOfTheCherryTree@CherryTreeSoftware.com
I've only completed the Preface, Section A and some of Section B so far. If anyone sees something specific they want me to concentrate on drop me a line...
Best regards, Rick Cherry, III

It is (or at least the one I know of is) called "The Roots of the Cherry Tree" by Marjorie Loomis Cherry - 1955. I understand that only 7 originals exist (6 were carbon copies), I have one of the carbon copies. The Rutherford B. Hayes Library (www.rbhayes.org) in Fremont Ohio has a copy on microfiche along with the Findlay County Library (Findlay OH).
I'm currently considering retyping the book (without ANY changes) into an Adobe Acrobat (PDF) document - so others can view it (The copies, at least mine, are starting to show their age) - just need to determine the legality of doing so. I'd like to find someone else who has a copy so we can compare the resulting text.

P.S. Just for giggles, I tried to scan several pages, then process them thru some OCR software, the results were pretty bad.
