I am researching the Latham family. My great grandfather, Claiborne Parish Latham had a brother named William Bailey Latham who married Martha F. Glass. One of their children Sarah L. married Oscar G. Cherry. Their children listed on the 1930 Wood Co., TX census were Jettie L., Ica L., Ozie W., Ollie, Cleo and Rachael. If anyone has info on Sarah(Latham) Cherry, please contact linda_baker(a)cox.net. Thanks

ADELE CHERRY CRANAHAN was born December 1, 1915 in Dierks, Arkansas to parents Jesse and Clellie Mae Cherry. She graduated as a registered nurse from St. Joseph's Hospital, Hot Springs, Arkansas in 1938. She entered the United States Army as a Second Lieutenant in August of 1939, and completed her training as a nurse anesthetist at the Army and Navy General Hospital at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. She achieved the rank of First Lieutenant and met and married Captain Richard Henry Carnahan, D.D.S. Adele and Dick began their 65-year relationship as husband and wife November 29, 1940. The Carnahan's stations included Carlysle Barracks, Pennsylvania and Mitchell Field, New York. Dick was deployed to London as a Major in the Army Dental Corp. Adele, expecting their first child, moved to Dick's home in San Antonio. When Dick returned to San Antonio in 1945, he left the Army as Lieutenant Colonel and established his private practice of dentistry, always with the support of his beloved Adel!
e. Soon their son Richard Jr., was joined by two sisters Susan and Peggy. Mom was ever an active and loving presence in their lives.
Continually a proponent of education, Adele became licensed in Texas as a Registered Nurse in 1958 and began over a thirty-year tenure with the San Antonio Independent School District which included duties as: school nurse, classroom teacher and junior high school counselor. During her teaching career, she received her Master of Psychology in 1968 from Trinity University and Master of Education from Our Lady of the Lake University in 1972. In 1984, she became a Licensed Professional Counselor. She was awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award as School Counselor from the SAISD.
The Carnahans were a founding family of St. Luke's Episcopal Church where Adele served with the Altar Guild, Stephen's Ministry and as a Lay Reader. She served as president of the San Antonio Dental Auxiliary of which she was a member for six decades. She enjoyed her association with the San Antonio Assistance League, her membership in a garden club that did not garden and a sewing club that had ceased to sew.
Adele is survived by her loving husband, Richard Carnahan, D.D.S.; children, Richard "Corky"” Carnahan, D.D.S., Susan Cherry Hawthorne of Dallas and Peggy Taylor of Little Rock; her grandchildren, Carey, Colleen and Richard Carnahan, III; Elizabeth and Megan Hawthorne; Gretchen Wietstruck and Maggie Hawthorne; her great grandchildren are twins Abigail and Madeline and their brother, Ian Wietstruck.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, San Antonio, TX. Graveside service will be held the same day at 1:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Park, 1701 Austin Highway with Rev. Omar Pitman officiating.
In lieu of flowers, gifts to St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 11 St. Luke's Lane, San Antonio, TX 78209 (210) 828-6425 would be appreciated. Arrangements with Porter Loring Mortuary.
