AH HA! I finally found the book in the LDS library! The title is: "Climbing the Cherry Tree" by Mattie T. Logsdon. (I kept saying it was a Meacham who wrote it in the 30's)
Authors: Logsdon, Mattie T. (Mattie Theresa Marsalas), 1903 - Main Author
Notes include index:
Includes Bowyer (boyer), Cohee, Cowan, Logsdon, Rose, Woolsey, and related families.
John Cherry (ca. 1619/1629-ca 1670) immigrated to Virginia, and had at least one son born about 1640 and named John. Descendants moved to Tennessee and Oklahoma.
The Call number, Location and Status are:

Format:
Books/Monographs (with film)
The book was published in Ada, Oklahoma by M. T. Logsdon, c1977 and is 293 pages.
Also on microfilm, Slat Lake Citty, filmed by the Genealogical Society of Utah, 1981, on 1 microfilm reel: 35 mm.
And, I would love to hear from you via regular e-mail if you are researching this same family. My Great Grandmother was Mary Francis Cherry. Her father was Joel Lilley Cherry b. 19 Dec 1924 Howard County, Missouri, m. Mary Ann Hines. Joel Lilley Cherry's father was: John W. Cherry (middle name may be Wiley), born Linn County, Missouri. I would appreciate verification of my data. The Book I referenced above linked my ancestors back to the John Cherry born in Bray 1619. I'm just not sure if ti is accurate and need some verification.

There was a Joel T. Cherry in Bibb County, Georgia who married Susan McCallum in Bibb County, Ga 1837.
My William Cherry (1804 NC - 1863 GA) may have been related to Jesse or Darling Cherry, but it is hard to find the link back to North Carolina and Virginia. He had brothers Spencer and Riley Cherry. Other Cherry's in the area were Joel T, Hilliard, Joseph, Charity, Addison, Isaac, George F, Wiley and Abner.
Is anyone using DNA to see if these lines are connected?
Thank you

Sorry Karen, but I do not have a copy of the book in question nor have I ever seen or heard of it before. From the info provided, it appears you are a closer cousin to my wife than you are to me. I believed my line came down through Faithful Cherry brother of John Jr born in 1641. My wife Carolyn goes back to Darling Cherry who I believe was also a son of Jesse Cherry (your #6). Darling's daughter Adeline Aliene Cherry married Bryant Bell Buffaloe. They were Carolyn's great great grandparents. I do have some info to share with you which I will e-mail direct. I have a Joel Cherry, but I have no knowledge of your Joel Lilley.
I"m very interested also & would be happy to share information. Most of mine
is available in my gedcom that's uploaded to RootsWeb's WorldConnect database.
John Cherry of Bray is likely an ancestor of mine. My maternal grandmother's
name was Clara Cherry, and our family genealogy has a direct line to Capt.
Benjamin Cherry (war of 1812), born 1790 in Pennsylvania, moved to Rowan Country,
North Carolina. We have some evidence that his father, Bernjamin Sr., was
descended from Edward Cherry of Bray, a son of John Cherry.

I have copies of portions of the book "Roots of the Cherry Tree".
The entire book can be found at the Sam Houston Research Library in Liberty, Texas.
I would be interested in sharing info and exchanging copies of pages that I have, hopefully you will share pages from the book you mentioned with me.
I just need to ask you to be patient with me. We have a lot of illness in the family at this time.

I've been doing research on this line (or looking for someone else who also has) for years. I found a a book written by a Meacham (related to the Cowan line by marriage) about 25 years ago called "Climbing the Cherry Tree", and it took my line back to John Cherry, born in Bray 1619, married Elizabeth Faithful.
I have a couple questions for you. Do you have a copy of this book?
Secondly, would you be willing to share your research with me, at least for verification purposes? I KNOW I have some of it wrong and would love to see what you have on this line.
I do not know at present which ship he came on...but sure wish I did.
Much luck in your research. And indeed if you are related to John Cherry, we are very far removed cousins!
9th
Have you ever heard the name Joel Lilley Cherry (b. 18 Dec 1824, Missouri and went to Indian Territory, Oklahoma--died 8 Feb 1901 married in 1842 to Mary Ann Hines. They are my gg grandparents. (10th) His daughter, Mary Francis Cherry was my great grandmother and she married my Great Grandfather Josiah Murray Cowan. They had Keether Hosea Cowan (married Vinnie Ream Scott) who are my grandparents, and they had Ellis Woodrow Cowan, my father.
8th
Joel Lilley Cherry's father was John W. Cherry (born ca 1790, Linn County, Missouri), married Elizabeth Boyer (born19 Jul 1798 in Tennessee).
7th
I have James (or Wiley) Cherry born ca 1770, Halifax County, NC, wife unknown as John W. Cherry's father.
6th
James (or Wiley) Cherry's father I show as Jesse Cherry (from Edgecomb, NC) married to Elizabeth Gainer.
5th
his father was John Cherry from Virginia, born ca 1724, married to Mary Jordan.
4th
John Cherry's father was Lemuel (or Samuel) Cherry (born ca 1685 Norfolk, VA), married to Mary Courtney.
3rd
His father was Samuel Maund Cherry (born ca 1665, Norfolk, VA, died 16 May 1734 in Virginia), married Francis Ballantine.
2nd
His father was John Cherry Jr. (III) born ca 1641, Virginia, married to Rebecca Maund.
1st
And that takes us back to John Cherry, born Bray, Maidenhead, England, 1619, died 18 Jan 1698/1699 in Virginia, married to El;izabeth Faithful.
I have little proof that these are accurate except for the book "Climbing the Cherry Tree" and references the author had to census, wills and other documentation. The author prepared the book back in the 1930's.
I've been looking for someone who has a complete copy of "Climbing the Cherry Tree" for YEARS! I am hoping you have a copy of it. I had made copies of most of the pages but am missing some of it...and hence, I think I'm missing some critical research material.
Here's hoping we're related, and if not, perhaps another cousin will see this and answer my prayers!
Thanks much,
Karen Cowan Thomas

Valerie,
The information on Cherry comes from a paper regarding the PARKS family prepared by Lois Blake. Included was a section on the Nesselroad family. Belinda Nesselroad, a sister of Charlotte's married Thomas Parks, b. 26 July 1821. The data on Charlotte reads as follows: Charlotte, b. 22 April 1817; d. 11 Feb. 1907, m. 9 Nov. 1834, Morgan Co., OH to Peter F. Cherry, b. abt 1 Nov 1814; d. 23 Feb 1863, son of William David Cherry, who d. 4 April 1855, Clark County, Missouri, and Mary Ann (Polly) Murphy. Children 13.
The Sources listed for all the Nesselroad stuff were: Vital Records, Census Records, and correspondence with the following: Mrs. Nelda J. Norton, Mingo, IA; Patella M. Ashcroft, Newark, OH; Richard Nesselroad, Adel, IA; Leallah Franklin, Tucson, AZ; et al.
On July 17 of 2000 I had the following E-mail from Nelda Cherry-Morton:
I found your RootsWeb site and noticed that you have Peter F. Cherry as dying on 4 Apr 1855 in Clark Co., MO. The death date should be for William David Cherry. Peter is buried in Warren Co., IA. He is my gggrandfather and William is my ggggrandfather. If you have more information on these people, I would be interested in exhanging information with you. Thanks, Nelda Cherry-Morton.
For one reason or the other, I can't find a record of any reply I made to her. I was away from home during that time and may have somehow let it "fall thru the cracks." I should bring my stuff up to date with Nelda's comments.
Bill Parks

Please enlighten me as to what is involved in the DNA search.
How many generations back would it be likely to be successful? My Cherry line (Bertie Co, NC) goes back as follows from my Mother, Lila Gill::
Whitmel James Gill & Fannie Kidd
Sarah Winifred Sharrock & Samuel Hyman Gill
Susan Spivey & Whitmell T. Sharrock
Milley Cherry & William Spivey
Thomas Cherry & Rachael Outlaw
I believe that Thomas was the son of Aaron Cherry--his first son was named Aaron.
All the early members of these families lived in Bertie Co, NC
except the Kidds.
