Author:Mary Rosonski As decendent of William Cherry I've been doing a lot of research on this family. If you would like what I have I'll make copies to send you. But on family search .com &ancestry .com you can get a lot of information. Look for James Cherry b.14Sept1789 N.J.in War of 1812 m. 1 Apr. 1819 Anna Melona b.1802 Children Alexander,William,Mary A.,Mirenda,&Julis E. My address is Mary J. Rosonski 2426 14th St Lot 72 Ocala,FL.34470 e-mail marosonski(a)aol.com I have the Cherry family back to 1407 But do need some more documentation.
If you are new to the list or have a brickwall or two, then the best thing to do is go to the archives.
Go to www.rootsweb.com
have a look at all the different sources of information:
Try World Connect (under the heading FAMILY TREES )
type in your ancestor's name
See if you have a match with another cousin, who will usually have contact details there. The information you find at World Connect is not Primary Source information but it can link you up with other researchers who are working on the same family.
Go back to the Rootsweb.com page and go to MAILING LISTS, Threaded ARCHIVES
Go to the Letter of the List you are looking for Click on the Letter and then Scroll down to the name.
You will be presented with the mailing list broken down into monthly increments by year. Browse through them all or go to the appropriate time frame (ie when you missed getting messages because you were on vacation, or prior to your joining the list)
MESSAGE BOARDS will be found the same way.
If you have data or a query to enter, often by entering on the message board, you will also have the message sent to the list, as many of the Boards and Lists are link. If they are you will see this on the board.
LOCALITY LIST
If you find an ancestor lived in Tennesee or Kentucky for awhile, see if you can find out the County they resided in and join that County list for awhile. You might find cousins on these lists but you will also find out about the places your ancestors lived in and the lives they might have had there.
Good Luck,
Gaila
FYI: In case someone might be interested, I found this book on ebay with many Cherry's listed.
They have many full names listed, as well as allied family surnames, and photos of the book.
The url is:

Hope it helps,
Jamie

I am trying to locate the family or friends of James Edward Cherry, formerly of Scooba, Mississippi who died in Vietnam. The Mississippi Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Ocean Springs, Mississippi honors over 660 Mississippians who were lost in the war and has the pictures of all but 100 engraved on the Memorial. This memorial is second only to the “Wall” in Washington D.C. in size, scope and ambition. James' picture is one of those missing and this Memorial will never be complete until all the pictures of these brave souls are engraved on the memorial. Your assistance in locating or providing a picture is urgently solicited and the Mississippi Vietnam Veterans Memorial Committee will be forever grateful.
Thanking you in advance,

There were many Cherry families in Pitt County who lived very near the border of Martin County, NC. In the early 1800s, my Thomas Howell of Martin married Elizabeth Cherry of Pitt County. In the town of Williamston, NC, there is a book in the Martin County Community College Library --- in the Manning Genealogy Room, that is written about the Cherry lines in that area ... of course Bertie is right there in the same vacinity and several of the county borders were cut from first one then the other. The book may have been titled something like The Cherry Branch, but I' m not sure that that is the exact name ... it is a small library and I would imagine that one of the staff would immediately know which one I am referring to .... they are great people. I couldn't help but smile at the thought of Cherrys in Pitt County.. I wonder if anyone teased them about their name and the name of the county.
Hope this is helpful. Take care, Margaret

Looking for information on Thomas Cherry of Bertie County NC. Thomas was married to Jane possibly Mitchell. Looking for the location of Thomas' home, his siblings, account books, etc.
My apologies, I fell victim to a hoax! After losing everything to a real
virus last fall, I guess I'm paranoid. I hope I didn't cause any problems
for anyone. Again, I am sorry.

Helping a older friend b. 1925 recollect his family. Grandfather was Henry William Young born 1870 (place unknown) married a CHERRY. The CHERRY grandmother died giving birth about 1906 in Erie County Pa - Union Township.
In searching further we found a 1920 census Erie County - Union Township that corresponds with this family:
William Henry Young age 51 b NY
Daughter (Anne? - writing not ledgible) age 25 NY
Arthur or Herbert John age 24 b. NY
Earl H age 16 NY
Marjorie Ruth age 14 NY
also in house: Sophie (Sadie?) A Carr age 25 b. OHio
Daniel C Carr age 2 1/2 b PA
Another child and subject of this inquiry named Mildred Susan Young b. Feb 1901 - m Henry Claud Guthrie before 1920 and out of household. It is recalled Mildred had sister named Margaret and or Ruth, also fact she had a brother named Earl, also other familiar names Pearl, and Sadie. This appears to correspond with census data found.
The naming pattern certainly matches an older posts on this board titled quoting -

Believe the two families fit together somehow.
A recent nostalgic visit to this area found the old YOUNG farm (abandoned of many years) located on Beagle Club Rd? in Erie/Venango County Pa - also the family members buried at a cemetery located near a church in Union Township.
Any clues here welcome to help this person find his family.
