Hi..... My interest in the Cherry name is that a Jacobs in South Australia - possibly Adelaide - married a Mr. Cherry sometime after 1906. The Jacobs lady's parents were Jacob Jacobs and Hannah jacobs (nee Freeman). They had Hotels in Adelaide. I hope we match.

I have come across a Lessie or Leslie Cherry. I have not confirmed the correct spelling. His mother was Fannie Cherry. She was married to a Lee at one time.
Found in "SEBASTIAN COUNTY, ARKANSAS CEMETERY RECORDS, VOLUME IV, 1977" compiled by the Fort Smith Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution:
Leard Cemetery
CHERRY, Hearle Foy, Died July 28, 1924, age 2 yrs., 9 mos.
These are the John COPAS listed in the censuses:
COPAS, JOHN TN 1860 Davidson Co District 13 p 218
COPAS, JOHN TN 1860 Monroe Co. Tompkinsville P.O. p158
COPAS, JOHN TN 1850 Sullivan Co. 1st Division p.119
COPAS, JOHN J. TN 1850 Washington Co. 4th Sub Division p. 232
But This family was in the 1920 census:
TN, Clay Co, Dist. 1, ED 1, p. 5B.. Roll T625_1732
All were born in TN, and their parents born in TN.
Copas, John T., head, m, w, 48, (born ~1872)
Hetty M., wife, f, w, 47 (born ~1873)
Bulah, daughter, f, w, 12 (b. ~1908)
Allie, daughter, f, w, 6 (b. ~1916)
It looks like they were married about 1905. You can write the county
where they lived and ask for a copy of their marriage license. It might
list the names of their parents. Another source of parents names is
their death certificates. I think there's a death index for Illinois.
You need to follow this family backwards in time from the 1920 census.
In the 1900 census, they should both be single and living with their
parents. You can find them by searching the census soundex. Just page
through all of the COPAS and CHERRY listings until you find children of
the right age and name. There are soundexes for 1910, 1900, and 1880 in
TN. Then before that, you use indices. If you need help with the
census, ask at your local public or LDS library.
You might be able to try the 1880 census transcription done by the Mormon
church. John COPAS is a fairly common name, so you might not find him if
hes' not in the same county as Hetty. The transcription is at their
libraries.
When you find names of the parents in TN, you can ask for a lookup from
the marriage CDs for TN, but be sure to give an approximiate date for the
marriage. You might try this request on the TN mailing list or the
county mailing list where the couple lived.

Hello
One of the lists I am on had compiled information about the lists which may be helpful to all of us using Rootsweb. Please find some information to tuck away somewhere, it might be handy if you are going on vacation or working on a genealogy project.
If you are interested in knowing about other mailing list out there, one
of the very best inventories of genealogical mailing lists is John Fuller's Genealogy
Resources on the Internet located at
http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail.html
If you ever need to unsubscribe from this list or any rootsweb list all
you need to do is visit Password Central located at http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/
Follow the instructions and you will received an e-mail of all lists you belong to
and from it you can unsubscribe from the ones you want to.
Briefly (very), people can subscribe to the Cherry list in mail mode by
sending a message to CHERRY-L-request(a)rootsweb.com that
contains the word
subscribe
and nothing else. If they prefer digest mode, they should send
the command instead to CHERRY-D-request(a)rootsweb.com. To
unsubscribe, they should send the command "unsubscribe" to
CHERRY-L-request(a)rootsweb.com (if in mail mode) or
CHERRY-D-request(a)rootsweb.com (if in digest mode.)
To switch from one mode to the other, they should unsubscribe from
one and then subscribe to the other. There is no "no mail" mode
-- if they want messages to stop, they should simply unsubscribe.
To post to both CHERRY-L and CHERRY-D, messages should be sent
to CHERRY-L(a)rootsweb.com. Messages sent there will appear both
places.
If you would like to visit the Archived messages of this list, go to
http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ and type in the name of the list you would
like to search and from there you can search by dates.
There are a few items I would like to suggest for the benefit of each of
us.
1. When sending a posting to the list it would help if you would put
the subject of your posting in the subject line. Doing this also might
give you a better chance to attract the attention of someone who has the
information you are looking for or the attention of someone who is
searching for the information you are posting. Many members are on many
many lists and when they see a subject line that reads "My Ancestors"
they just delete it.
2. If someone posts a message to the list that should not have been
posted, please just delete it.
3. Please remember to delete the tags and un-needed words when you
re-send a message to the list with your answer. If you don't check this, your
responses can become quite large and may cause problems with some of our member's
servers. This member who might not be able to receive your message because of its
size, just might be your long lost second cousin with all the answers you are looking
for.
I want to thank each of you for your continued support and your
willingness to help make this list the success it is. It is your list and is here for
your benefit. If you have suggestions or comments you would like in
future reports, you only need to send them to me.
Best Regards,
Gaila
