Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.

It is interesting, I see in the 1790 Edgecombe Census, these Cherry men:
Levi, Robert, William, Wright, Wiley, William.
This census sheet was done alphabetically, not by area, so I have no idea
which person lived near the others.

Linda, John and all,
When I was brand new to genealogy, I found a list in a magazine regarding
the orphans of Wiley Cherry. I haven't been back to the Oakland LDS family
history centre to find that article which named the children of Wiley
Cherry, but someday, I am going to go back.
Sandra and I are first cousins, our Cherry family lived in Houston County
from at least 1840 to now. Our William Cherry b 1804, NC was married to
Edna Perrin Heard b1824, SC. She was 19 and he was 38 years old at the time
of their marriage. Marriage date was Oct 25, 1842 Bibb County, GA. We
don't know if this was William's first marriage or not.
Their children, taken from a family Bible,
Andrew D Cherry born Oct 1843
Wiley Franklin born Oct 1846
James Raleigh born April 1848
Cornelia Angeline born March 1850
Jacob Lonza born Feb 1852
Emma Edna born March 1854
William Thomas born April 1858 (?) date hard to read
Robert Hanes Cherry April 1862
William Cherry died on 2 June 1862
Edna (Edney) remarried Meredith Arnett, a contempary of William Cherry.
Meredith was also a widower and about the same age as William Cherry - also
born in NC.
Robert Hanes
The names Rena Cherry, Sally and Robert, Frances, Margaret were found in
the family for many generations.
Several of our William's childrens middle names: Hanes, Franklin and Raleigh
could be family names. Raleigh could also be Raleigh North Carolina. We
don't know. Robert Hanes Cherry had a son Robert Kale Cherry, which could
also be a family name.
This is definitely a brick wall for Sandra and I. I would like to know how
all the Georgia Cherry's connect. Bibb County is full of Cherry's. Another
point of interest, our Cherry family seemed to be Methodist/Episcopalian.
William Cherry did not seem as prosperous and Edna's family, but he looked
after her younger brothers and sisters when her parents died and looked
after the estate accounts very well and the children seem to come to them.
Does anyone have information on Spencer and Riley Cherry families? Sandra
says Riley died young, so his family was probably smaller. Spencer sold
William the land in Houston County, Ga.
Thanks
Gaila

Sandra,
Are you telling me that my Cherry names and yours are the same and if so,
what a coincidence. I know that they seem to all name the children the same
names.
I just want to add that my g.g. gf James' children William and James served
in the civil war. The 57th regiment. William was killed in Jonesboro, GA
and James, my g.gf was married 3 times. I do not know his first wife's
name, but he had children with her by the names of, Oliver, Mamie (I believe
(can't read writing of censes taker) and Arthur. Then he was married to my
granddaddy's mother, Emma D. Walls and they had one son, my granddaddy,
Thomas Watson. My granddaddy and his mother had thypoid fever when
granddaddy was 6 and his mother died, he was real sick all his life from
this. Then he married Hattie Jones and their children were Alston, Aline,
Annie Lee, Catherine, James Cecil, and Amelia.
I don't know what happened to the other children of my g.g. gf James.
William and Parmelia's children, what I know of them is Frances married
David Criswell, William Jr. married Sinia Walters and Margaret married Henry
Lee.
Sorry if this is more information than you want, but once I get started I
seem to not know when to quit.
If any of these names ring a bell please let me know and maybe we can
exchange more of what we have with one another.
Thanks again.
Linda

My William was married to Parmelia Frazier and James was married (1st
marriage we believe) to Louisa Frazier. James was then married to Mary
Haywood and then Mary Collins.
William and Parmelia Cherry's children were Mary J., Frances H., Sally A.,
Nancy A., Rena(Renia), William M., Margaret, James and then another baby
girl whose name I don't know. This was all taken from census and birth
records.
James and Louisa's children were Nancy, William, Caroline and James. James
and Mary Haywood probably had one child, Lenorah and James and Mary Collins
probably only one child Harry S. (at least that's all I can find at this
time.
I do know that some of our relatives moved to Houston County, but do not
know which ones. i.e., if they were early or later relatives.
Don't know why I've told you all of this as they are probably not in your
line, but one never knows.
Good luck. Let's hope we all find our missing links soon.

I don't know he is my brickwall. However, I have him in the 1850 and 1860
Georgia census for Chatooga County so he is probably not the same person as
your William Cherry.
John Cherry
My William and his brotherRiley both have a son named James, William is 46
in the 1850 cencus and Riley is 42 it has Riley as being born in Ga but
William in NC, there is also a Spencer Cherry that lived in Houston Co he is
39 with a son named Nepolean, he sold my William some land, we believe they
were brothers but could be just kin somehow.

Sandra,
Thanks for responding so quickly.
My William shows up on the 1850 census as being 30 and then in the 1860
census his age is shown as 46, so I figure he must have been born about 1814
- 1820. My James would have been born about 1808 - 1812.
Trying to find them has been very frustrating to say the least. And yes,
maybe they are tied together somehow as Washington County was next to
Wilkinson.
Thanks again for responding.

How old is your William and James?? I think the ones in this area of Ga
might should work together for Gaila and I have hit a brick wall also. I
don`t know but there might be a connection between your William and mine
even though he went to Houston Co he was in Washington Co when he was
younger.
Thanks

John,
Does your William Anderson Cherry have a brother named James by chance? My
William Cherry and James Cherry were from N.C. and they moved to Georgia.
Both were in the 1850 and 1860 Wilkinson County, Georgia census. Also their
was a Mary Cherry who was 60 so she may have been their mother, also Mary
had a Silvie living with her also. They both were on the Wilkinson County,
Georgia census too.
We have hit a brick wall trying to find William and James, Mary and Silvie
when checking N.C. Sure would be nice if they were in your lineage. Any
info you might be able to give would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Clarification - My Cherry family is from North Carolina according to the
census, but in Houston County, Georgia by mid 1800's.
Sorry for any confusion,
Gaila
> The Cherry families I am looking for are in Houston County by the early to
mid 1800's (1831 - 1850). There is Spencer, William (b1804, NC) and Riley
(b 1808, Georgia?). Are they brothers? I have William's descendants, in

are looking to see if they used name order, so we could locate a father's or

I have a William Anderson Cherry (b. abt 1815 in NC). I have located him on
the 1850 Georgia census in Chatooga County. It lists NC as his birth place.
I am having difficulty connecting him up to NC although I have located an
Anderson Cherry in the 1840 Lincoln County, NC Census.

William thanks so much. It is the same person. I had his first wife as
Lucy Humprheys. Did not look up on the census to see what names were there,
but I do have those names, George B, Noel Franklin, and Nannie A. Emma was
a nick name for Mary Enceline. She was a school teacher in Titus Co. and
they they moved to Montague co. TX where they are buried. I have George B
death cert. as Wichita Falls, TX. Love to hear more from you.
