Hello
I am the list administrator of the Cherry list. Possibly a Matrix virus is doing the rounds, so be careful of any message you see that advise you to open the Matrix 2 screensaver.
Rootsweb doesn't accept attachments and therefore, it will not be spread via the list. Today would be a good day to update you virus definitions.
Thanks,

Delores: I have connections to Cherrys in Pitt Co, NC as well. I have
found much valuable information about the Cherry families of that era
and area in a family genealogy book titled "North Carolina Cherry
Families and Cherry Branches." I believe I found that book in the
Manning Genealogy Room at the Martin County Community College Library
while on a research trip which included Williamston, NC. As indicated
by the "Manning Room," the Manning family was very prominent in that
area of Martin Co in the late 1700s and 1800s. Later generations have
been very active in researching their genealogy. One of my Howell
daughters married a Manning, and I have been so grateful for their very
detailed records that they have on file in that library. You might find
information you need through contacting that library or the Martin Co.
rootsweb site. Martin, Pitt, Edgecombe, and Beaufort Counties all butt
together within 20 -- 30 miles of Williamston. Likewise, Bertie is only
a few miles north of Williamston .... Halifax was also in there ... with
many of the county lines being blended and rearranged in the early
years. Tyrell County lines blurb in and out also.... I have found my
Howell and their spouses' families have had legal activity in all of
them.
I am tracking Elizabeth E. Cherry, daughter of Roderick and Jennett
(Cherry) Cherry -- cousins prior to marriage; Roderick was son of Samuel
and Mary (Moore) Cherry. Elizabeth married Thomas Howell, my ggg
grandfather. Their marriage was in abt 1836, Martin Co., she was "of
Pitt Co." They moved to Hardeman, TN in 1840. After Thomas Howell's
death in 1844, she married Thomas Harrell (think I didn't beat my head
against that wall for a couple of years). She, Harrell, the Howell
children and their children all moved to Drew Co. AR in 1862. She is
buried in Drew Co.
Hope this helps.
Take care, Margaret
Dallas, TX
Thank you David.
I'll go to the site and look into it.
Your last name is interesting even, because those Penningtons I had listed
there are descended from Daniel Boone's baby Sis Hannah. Their mother was a
Morgan, with Welsh Heritage.
It's fascinating how first names and last names are so well repeated in
these lines when you start digging.
Thanks again

Hi Lisa,
I have some information about the Cherry family on my web site. You can
find it at
www.oregontrail.net/~dwmorgan
I have not found that your information matches with any specific Cherry
family members that I have listed, but it certainly appears to be the
same family. Your information is the first that I have seen that
indicates the source of the name Carey, which you have spelled Cary, and
in my line is found in Lovey Carey Cherry who married John H. Morgan in
Stewart Co TN.
My information is a collection of data gathered from others on the
internet and elsewhere, and you should do your own verification if so
inclined.
You will notice that Loveys mother was Lydia Minerva Daniel. Lydia was
born 1778 in NC, and moved to TN with the Cherry clan. She was 50 when
Louisa Minerva Cherry was born in TN.
You list a Lemuel Cherry being born in VA. A Lemuel G Cherry lived in
Stewart Co TN, and was a chain carrier (surveyor work) according to
Stewart Co Will extracts. I doubt that they are the same Lemuel
Cherry.
If you find Lemuel G. Cherry on my web site, and click on him, you will
bring up a screen with a little info about him. Just under the name
Lemuel G Cherry, there is in brackets the following: NI3890. If you
click on that, it will down load a notes file, and it will take you to a
section with some of the notes about the Cherry family in Stewart Co TN,
as posted from the will extracts by Jim Long. Here is a link to the
source of that information:

I am looking for information on John Cherry and his wife Nancy Manning.
He died 1822 in Pitt Co North Carolina and represented Pitt in the House
of Commons. Father was Samuel Cherry. I need his wifes parents and his
date of birth. Their daughter Margaret Cherry married John Thigpen, son
of Sallie Thigpen and Dr. Francis Thigpen.
Thanks

Okay, yes, according to what my gr grandfather S. B. Pennington, son of Leah
and Daniel Rufus always
said they were first cousins, and I have since run across more info but I'd
like to get more info
on the Cherry's and their connection to the Penningtons, Woods and even the
Plumlee's.
S.B's wife was a Plumlee.

Hi! I am still searching for Eliza Cherry, who was born about 1810. I thought that she had been born in Girvan Ayr, Scotland but in a 1851 census it lists her and her husband Francis Hunter as being Irish. When I looked back at the Scottish records -OPR's- it says that they are "of" Girvan.
They were married there according to the church records in 1831. Any thing familiar at all. Thanks for your time. Susan

I am not familiar with these names. All I know of the connection came from
information on a family reunion for the Cherry-Joiner family in Lauderdale,
Ms. around the 4th of July. We have moved so I haven't received any invitations
in several year. My great aunt Miriam Cherry was very involved in the planning
and she died several years ago. My grandmother, Ethel Viola Cherry married
Emmett Louis Knight. Does this sound familiar?
