Subject: Information
Sandra: I have reason to believe that my husband's great grandfather, Joseph Cherry's, parents may have been named Thomas and Elizabeth as that is what he named his first two children as was the custom of the day. The son's middle name was Michael, which was the name of the maternal grandfather, Michael Killion.
I just stumbled across a will for a Thomas Cherry, wife Elizabeth, dated July 30, 1850 and wondered if you could tell me where else I can look for any information on this couple. Joseph married a lady born in IN (we don't know where), but married in 1841 in Madison Co., IL and later all three, with the first two children migrated to Richland Co., WI in 1848. He died in Iowa Co., WI in 1874.
Would there be a death record for Thomas? Elizabeth? Where can I find the names of the children mentioned? Joseph was born in England (we don't know where) but if, on a longshot, these are his parents and are in Indianapolis, do you have any idea where they might have entered this country?
I realize this is totally off the wall, but you have no idea how long I have looked for anything on Joseph, beyond his marriage to Amelia Killion and his death in WI. I have virtually all of his descendants but none of the older great grandchildren still living ever heard their parents say where in England Joseph came from. One son went to NE before Joseph died. Then his widow and two sons followed along with a widowed daughter-in-law, eldest daughter, Elizabeth Cherry Hird.
Thanks for any help! Ann Cherry
