Hi everyone,
Just a note to introduce myself - I've just adopted the CHERRINGTON list so
I'm writing to you as the new administrator. I've been subscribed to the
list for a while, mainly in "lurk" mode, so I've taken this opportunity to
tell you all a little about my research interests.
I am researching the Cherrington line from Shifnal, Shropshire. My
ggrandmother was Lizzie Cherrington who married John Hardman in 1896. She
had moved from Shropshire to Bolton to live with a cousin of hers, Alice
Dawson, whose husband was the foreman at Eagly Mill, Bolton. Lizzie went to
work at Eagley Mill, met John Hardman and the rest is history! There are
many of my Cherringtons living in High Street, Shifnal in the 1881 census.
One of Lizzie's brothers (George) emigrated to Canada in the 1890's and
settled in Alberta, so I have a whole line of relations out there somewhere
that I haven't got in contact with yet.
I must admit that progress on my Cherrington geneology has been rather slow,
because I work full time and what with the record offices only being open
during the week, it's difficult to get on with it. Still, I keep telling
myself that geneology is a lifetime's work, so I've got plenty time - I
hope!
In summary, all my geneology interests are:
Bowes - Co. Durham
Cherrington - Shifnal, Shropshire and Alberta, Canada
Hardman - pre-1800: Salford, 1800 onwards: Eagley/Turton in Bolton,
Lancashire
Howarth - Bolton (others, i.e. Howorth - not sure yet!)
Noble - W. Yorks
Watson - Dewsbury, W. Yorks
Wood - Bolton
There have been some new subscribers recently so let's give them all a
friendly introduction. There hasn't been much activity on the list over the
past couple of weeks, so can everyone re-post their interests so we know
what we're all up to. You never know who's out there lurking! I shall be
doing my best to advertise the list and to try to increase the traffic a
little.
Just a couple of things: please keep your postings in plain text format (as
opposed to rich text format), don't include attachments in your postings
because rootsweb software will delete them before they reach the mailing
list, and send your replies to the list where possible. Then we can all see
how your research is going - you never know when information you have may be
of use to someone else.
Happy hunting!
Jane Hardman
