CHENOWETH(7)
Yay!!
Today a woman who volunteers in the Cuyahoga County (Ohio) Archives searched for a marriage record for my grandfather, Charles REDFIELD, and a woman named Harriet.
She found it! It says:
Harriet Chenoweth age 21 born Cleveland
Father: Benjamin Mother: Annie L. Thorne
married 16 March 1918
to Charles W. Redfield age 28 born Rootstown, Ohio
Father: Fred (* It's actually Frank) Mother: Alto O. Jerome
With that definite information, I checked the Chenoweth website but could not determine which family this Harriet might be from. Any ideas? While I am in Ohio this month I will go to Cleveland and try to find a death record for Harriet. I now know it would be between the spring of 1918 and the fall of 1921, when Grandpa remarried after Harriet died.
If anyone knows of this Cleveland, Ohio Chenoweth family, I'd love any info you might be able to give. Thanks!

I am new to this list and hope someone might know something about my "mystery woman". I'm not sure she's a CHENOWETH, but she may be.
My grandfather (Charles REDFIELD)'s first wife died, according to our family story, in Cleveland, Ohio some time between 1910 and 1920. Her name was Harriet-- that much seems to be true. A fellow Redfield researcher said her last name was CHENOWETH, but the researcher cannot remember where she got that information. (Sigh.)
According to the story our family has told for some 80 years, Harriet (maybe CHENOWETH) was "murdered by the mob" in Cleveland. My grandfather later married my grandmother, Lura ALBAUGH, in 1921, in Akron, OH. I would imagine that Harriet (maybe CHENOWETH) was born between 1890-1900, and she may have been living in Summit County or Cuyahoga County, OH, as my grandfather went back and forth between those two adjoining counties during that time.
I am leaving Friday for a three week car trip and will be spending one afternoon in Cleveland and another in Akron, Ohio. There I hope to find a record of a marriage between Charles REDFIELD and Harriet CHENOWETH. If I find the record, I will at least have the earliest possible date of her death. That will narrow the search down. I have searched the online Ohio Death Index for those years, but no Harriet CHENOWETH or REDFIELD is showing up at all. I will probably have to perform a search in the microfilmed records myself, if I have enough time. If I am lucky enough to turn up a death date, I will be able to check the newspapers for the story (which must have made the front page), and then perhaps a criminal court case against the murder suspect.
I would surely like to find out if anyone knows anything about this Harriet before I leave for Ohio. Any information whatsoever would be helpful. I did check out that fantastic Chenoweth website, but no Harriet showed up.
Thanks very much for any help!
