Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Hi All,
Please do not respond to the recent spam posting on the list, and please do
not click on the link in that message. If you respond to the message the
spam gets sent to the list twice. The spam posting that came to the
list was
probably the result of someone having a worm or virus in their email account. They are probably completely unaware that
their email address has been hacked and is being used to send spam. I
have temporarily put them on moderation and will be contacting them
privately.
This unfortunately happens
occasionally, and has in fact happened to me as well. Some good
precautions to prevent it happening to you is to be careful what links
you click on in emails; before entering a password, make sure you are on the proper website and haven't been redirected; and change your
password periodically.
AOL all ready
tends to bounce Rootsweb emails. So if you get a spam that comes
through the list, the best thing is to not hit the spam button. If you
do, your email provider may automatically unsub you from the list. The
best thing is to delete the email,
and contact me and let me know that one has come through to the list.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email me off list.
Kind regards,
Dee Ferris
