OK, I have some more information on him. Any additional information
such as a first wife will be appreciated.
Mattie married her second husband, Frank Carleton Cheney, the son of
Luther Cheney and Lydia Winn on 18 July, 1907 in Manhattan. There is a
Frank Carleton Cheney that was born in NY on December 28, 1862. He had a
daughter, Ella May, probably from a first marriage, born in 1885.Frank
Cheney died on 3 July, 1910.His last residence was at 103 W. 48^th St.,
Bay City, NY and he had lived in New York for 20 years.

Paul,
I'm very doubtful that this is going to help, but want you to have the information and make that judgment. In my data base have a Frank C. Cheney, born 14 Dec 1846 in Vermont with parents George Chesley Cheney and Elizabeth Cushing Gates. Both were born in Vermont, but died in Rock Island County, IL in 1854. I have nothing more on Frank though.
If I could find anything on him I'd bet that his middle initial would stand from Chesley or Cushing and not Carleton.
Sorry there isn't more and very sorry I couldn't help.
Jane

Jane,
No I really don't. Mattie was born in 1837 in Boston. She was an
actress and went by the name of Laura LeClaire. I assume that Frank
Cheney was born somewhere around that time. In the 1920 Census, she was
living in Berkeley, CA and there is no further mention of Frank Cheney,
so I have to assume that he died between 1910 and 1920. I found a 13
year old message to Genealogy.com looking for his brother and e-mailed
to that message. I found nothing on Ancestry.com.
Thanks for your help.
