I haven't received any mail from this list for quite awhile and wondered if it's still active. I'm suspecting that I'm not getting my mail from these lists. At any rate, I wanted to update you on the information I have found about the Daniel Cheney that I've written about previously.
Daniel CHENEY died 30 May 1861 in Shopiere, Rock Co., Wisconsin and is buried in the Shopiere Cemetery. He died in his 69th year, making his birth year about 1792. According to one census he was born in New Hampshire.
His wife, Sophronia (Saphronia) is buried next to him with the dates: born: 5 Jul 1794, died: 9 Feb 1881.
From Daniel's will I found the names of three children (from his first marriage to Sally Smith:
1. Hazen B. Cheney (abt 1823 - 2 Apr 1853) married to Nancy SHAW on 27 Sep 1849 in Ashtabula County, OH. --- they had two children:
***George A., born about 1850 (in will)
***Carroll, born about 1852 (in will)
2. Hannah (Abt 1830/1834 - between 1861 & 1881) married to James S. KELLOGG in Rock County, WI.
***Leon C. Kellogg (b. abt 1863 and three others, names unknown
3. Alonzo H. (abt 1829 - ) married to Elizabeth (possible CAMIC)
***Hazen E. (29 Oct 1866 - 27 Dec 1944 in CA)
***Zelma (abt 1868 - )
***Alonzo (abt 1870 - )
***Cedora E. (24 Mar 1875 - 22 Jun 1946 in CA)
A fourth child was hinted at by a referral in the will to son-in-law Stephen B. Robinson, but no name attached to the wife.
Daniel lived in Ashtabula County, OH before going to Rock County in about 1850 when the first land record is found. In the 1850 census he was still in Ohio.
None of this, of course, helped with whether he was the son of Giles and Hannah Cheney of Vermont. I'm still searching for that verification.
