I thought I would try Daniel Cheney again since I did find out a little more. Please excuse the length of this, but want to share the info I have.
Daniel was born about 1794; the 1860 census gives his birth in New Hampshire.
He married Sally Smith 19 Feb 1818 in Ashtabula County, Ohio. Sally died 16 Jan 1840 and is buried in Conneaut, OH. Next to Sally's grave is a headstone that is completely unreadable and next to that is the headstone for Denison S. Cheney, b: abt 1819, d: 12 May 1847. Denison S. Cheney married Sarah Eliza Shaw on 12 Oct 1843 in Ashtabula County.
Daniel then married Sophronia Shaw on 16 Apr 1840 in Ashtabula County.
In 1850 census he and Sophonia are in Ashtabula Co with 3 children listed: a Caroline Cheney, age 18, Elizabeth Anderson, 16 and Edwin Anderson, 13.
In the 1860 census he is in Turtle Township, Rock County, Wisconsin
Daniel Cheeney, 67, farmer, 4000/ 1600, b: New Hampshire
Sophrona Cheeney, 65, b: VT
George A. Cheeney, 10, b: WI
Stephen B. Robinson, 29, farm tenant, b: NY
By 1870 Daniel is not listed and Sophronia is living with the John Shimeal family. In 1870 she is still with this family as Mother.
Another Cheney found In the1870 census for Rock County was Elonzo H. Cheeney, 40, OH, born 1829, along with his wife and three children.
There is also a John Cheney, b. 1804 in VT living in Rock County from 1845 on.
From census records it appears that Daniel and Sally had 7 children, 3 males, 4 females, all born before 1840.
POSSIBLE children may be:
Female, b; abt 1819/1820
Male: b. abt 1819 (Denison?)
Male: 1821/1825
Female: 1821/1830
Female: 1826/1829
Male: 1829/1830: (Alonzo H.? [Elonzo?])
Female: abt 1832: Caroline?
In letters from 1870 my ggg grandmother wrote of visiting Alonzo Cheney and his family in Shopiere, WI and also visiting "Aunt Cheney" who also lives there.
