trying to locate information on my Cheney ancestor Flora Thank you very
much
Sharon,
If they were in New Madrid, Missouri in 1813, it is possible that they
were there by 1811 or 1812. This is important and historical. They may
have been close personal witnesses to the greatest earthquake in recorded
history. The New Madrid quakes measured about a Richter 10 as if that
is possible. They changed the course of the Mississippi River, and were
felt as far away as New York City as a Richter 5 or 6. There were two
of them. Even today the area is one of the world's most unstable.

My great-great-great-grandmother was Mary Day Cheney Waters. Her mother was
a Day. She married Richard Waters in MD. They left Somerset MD around
1806-1807 and lived near Louisville Ky for a few years. They were in New
Madrid MO by 1813. By 1834 or before, they were in Illinois.
Is anyone researching one of the above families?
