Hi folks,
This is my first post to the list.
I am searching for any information about George CHENEY who married Rose
FARLEY, presumably in Ontario. Their daughter Margaret "Maggie" Cheney
(wife of Duncan FRASER) was born 24 May 1849 and died 30 December 1937 in
Mallorytown Landing (called Riverside), Leeds Co., Ontario, where she had
lived with her brother Henry Cheney for 50 years. Her obituary says "she
was daughter of George Cheney and Rose Farley whose family came to this
country more 100 years ago."
That last statement is ambiguous as to whether the time of immigration
applies to both George and Rose, or just to Rose. I know there was an old
and venerable Farley family in Canada in the late 1700's and wonder if she
might be related to them.
They also had a daughter, Harriet, who married a Mr. Hale and lived in
Stockholm, St. Lawrence Co., New York.
Family tradition is that they were all Irish.
Thanks for any leads, even if it's just on Irish immigration to Canada
between 1820 and 1835!
Sincerely,
Mark A. Wentling
