Thanks for the reply. I'm aware that the Chenaults have many different spellings. I'm just looking for anyone who may recognize these names, spelled this way or any other way.

My mother was born to James Hugh Chennault, 28 Dec 1903.Her father's name was found with about 5 different spellings on records and legal docoments. His father,William Chennault born 1816 had about the same different spellings. His father, John Chennault had the same problem. Back in those early times they might have 3 different spellings on the same page of a legal document. They could care less how the spelling was, some times it started with Shanalt. As I kept digging deeper and found that they could care less how things were spelled as long as heir point was made and you got the gist of it. Census taker's are something else. It goes by sound because there was so many names that looked like alphabet soup.People weren't home so he got what information he could from the next neighbor. He couldn't speak english. You must be flexible in genealogy and read between the lines.
