Hello,
Wondering whether any of you studying CHISHOLM and CHEESMAN/CHISMAN lines in
1600s Virginia have found information connecting the 2 surnames to the same
source from the CHISHOLM(E)/de CHESHOLM(E) lineage out of England and Scotland
who were Jacobites.
I have just this week found that it appears that I may descend from Edmund
CHEESMAN/ aka CHISMAN of Bacon's Rebellion if it proves out that he and his
wife, Mary ?, were the parents of the Elizabeth ?/CHEESMAN?/CHISMAN? who married
Henry FORREST through LUMPKIN lineage from (Major) Jacob LUMPKIN, also a
Jacobite but, himself, a supporter of (Governor) (Sir) William BERKELEY.
Any information would be most helpful.
In advance, I thank you for any assistance.
Sincerely,
Bellinda Myrick-Barnett
Hello,
Is anyone else working on information that the CHEESMAN/CHISMAN of Edmund
CHEESMAN/CHISMAN, Jacobite, executed after Bacon's Rebellion, was part of the
Scottish descended de CHESHOLME/CHISHOLM family group of Jacobites?
It would greatly appear that the CHEESMAN/CHISMAN spellings are derived from
the name of de CHESHOLME/CHISHOLM but it is all new lineage for me as of this
week.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Bellinda Myrick-Barnett
Hello to the CHEESMAN, FORREST, MERRICK and MYRICK lists,
Re: Other possible connections with 1600s Bacon's Rebellion Owen
MERRICK/MIRICK/MYRICK, Sr., (md: wife # 1: Joan ?/THORPE? and wife # 2: Mrs. Mary GREEN
GRAY, (widow of 1st husb: (Sir) Francis GRAY,) and Bacon's Rebellion's Edmund
CHEESMAN, (believed to be the father of Elizabeth CHEESMAN who married Henry
FORREST)
Won't take time to list all of the dates, locations, etc. involved here but
will list names as I descend in case anyone on list connects in anyway as so
many of these family groups connected so over the years. I have just found what
appears to be direct descent for me from Edmund CHEESMAN of Bacon's Rebellion
through daughter, Elizabeth CHEESMAN, who married Henry FORREST...not sure if
this Elizabeth has yet been proven to be Edmund CHEESMAN's daughter or not as
this is just brand new information for me today but with the Bacon's
Rebellion connection for Edmund CHEESMAN and Owen MERRICK/MYRICK, I thought that there
may be others of you that may be either descended from/connected to both the
MERRICK/MYRICK and CHEESMAN lineage or, otherwise, have information on this
family group.
Just wondering whether or not anyone on the CHEESMAN and/or FOR(R)EST lists
researching this Edmund CHEESMAN, possible daughter, Elizabeth CHEESMAN and
husband, Henry FORREST, and/or the MERRICK and/or MYRICK lists, (that is
researching our Owen MERRICK/MIRICK/MYRICK, Sr. of Bacon's Rebellion,) might have any
information regarding an Edmund CHEESMAN also involved in Bacon's Rebellion as
it appears that he is probably the father of Elizabeth CHEESMAN who married
Henry FORREST, parents of John FORREST who married Ann LONG, parents of Abraham
FORREST, Sr. who married Judith ?/BILL(E)UPS, parents of John FORREST who
married Ann SANFORD?/DURRETT? and they were the parents of Richard FORREST who
married Elizabeth OLIVER, parents of Elizabeth FORREST who married Robert
LUMPKIN, parents of Sarah LUMPKIN who married John GRESHAM, (RS,) parents of Barnett
GRESHAM who married Lucy POWELL, parents of Jehu/John Madison GRESHAM/GRISHAM
who married Elizabeth Ann FORD, parents of Frances Ann GRISHAM who md: 1st
husb: Lawrence M. HATTEN, (CSA,) and then md: 2nd husb: Zachariah Taylor
"Zachary/Zack" FAITH, parents & stepfather of Cicero Lamkin HATTEN who married
Rodella "Della" JONES, parents of Ethel Rosalie HATTEN who md: 1st husb: Joseph
Marion WOMACK, Sr. and then md: 2nd husb: Louis Hector "Hec(k)" SLAUGHTER, my
maternal grandparents. The aformentioned families after Virginia were in
Oglethorpe County, Virginia and Mississippi and into Winn Parish, Louisiana before
West Carroll Parish, Louisiana for my grandparents.
Robert LUMPKIN, the aformentioned husband of Elizabeth FORREST, was the son
of George LUMPKIN and Mary Archdeacon CODY/aka ARCHDEACON-CODY, daughter of
James Archdeacon CODY, II of Scotland, and George LUMPKIN was the son of
(Captain) Jacob LUMPKIN, a supporter of (Governor) (Sir) William BERKELEY in Bacon's
Rebellion in 1676.
It is believed that I am descended, also, from Owen MERRICK/MIRICK/MYRICK,
Sr. and his 1st wife: Joan ?/THORPE? of 1600s Isle of Wight Co./Surry Co., VA
through their son, Francis MYRICK, Sr. and his wife, Rebecca CARROLL?, and
then, most likely, through their son, John MYRICK, (some think more likely that it
is their son, Richard MYRICK,) whom is believed to have in the early 1700s
gone into North Carolina and South Carolina, and then my paternal 4th great
grandfather being James MYRICK, born: Abt. 1740 in Orangeburgh District, South
Carolina, who married Mary BROOKER through their son, William MYRICK, born:
Abt. 1788 in Barnwell County, South Carolina, formerly Orangeburgh District, and
Elizabeth PIERCE, through their son, William H. "Billy" MYRICK, born: Abt.
1820 in AL/MS Territory/Jones/Jasper Counties, and wife, Phoebe Catherine
HERRINGTON, through their son, Calvin Pierce "Callie" MYRICK, and his wife, Harriet
Katherine "Hattie" HERRINGTON, through their son, James Martin "Jim" MYRICK,
and his wife, Allie Artimissa PARKER, my paternal grandparents of Mississippi
and Louisiana.
Looking forward to hearing from anyone who may have more information
regarding this CHEESMAN-FORREST family group as well as the MERRICK/MYRICK and any
others connecting.
In advance, I thank you.
Sincerely,
Bellinda Myrick-Barnett
