Wow, finally, someone in the same boat....................
Here's what I have: Apparently John Cheeseman had a sister, or cousin, named Sally. Anyway on 23 August 1837 John Cheeseman married Sally Miller in Gallia Co, Ohio.....................
But on the very next day, August 24 and it's the very next entry in the marriage record book, Phelty J. Miller married Sally Cheeseman.....................
Since the entries in the book are one after the other, I was wondering if perhaps the acting justice of the peace on the first day entered the names incorrectly, i.e. John Cheeseman and Sally Miller and then next day corrected them to John Miller and Sally Cheeseman? Or was it a brother/sister pair who married a brother/sister pair and there really were 2 marriages?....................
Many people reference this Phelty J. Miller as Phelty John Miller, however my research shows he 4 times purchased federal land and therein he is shown as Phelty Jacob Miller.....................
Phelty J. Miller and Sally Cheeseman were my great great grandparents and I've been trying to clear this up for years. I have copies of the referenced marriages which are no more than hand written entries in a registry book and also the federal land purchases.....................
The children of Phelty J. Miller and Sally Cheeseman were
Emily b. 1838, Wilson b. 1839, Charles b. 1841, Martha b. 1843, Amazone b. 1844, Elizabeth b. 1846 and William b. 1850. William was my great grandfather.....................
There were more Miller/Cheeseman marriages as supposedly the parents of Sally Cheeseman were Joseph Cheeseman and Nancy Miller.....................
