I have an original photo of Gertrude Cheeseman, taken in about 1902 in Galena (Cherokee Co.) Kansas, which I would like to get back to family members. I found her in the 1900 census of Galena, Kansas, age 1/12ths of a year (census taken June 14th, so she was likely born in May, 1900). Parents were Seymour E., age 45 and Annie Cheesman, age 26. Note that the spelling at that time was Cheesman, without the second "e".
In 1910, the family lived in Joplin (Jasper Co.) MO, and by 1930, they were in Oklahoma City, OK.

I have Cheeseman ancestors from Stalisfield, Kent, England and from Sheppey, Kent, England. The earliest Cheeseman ancestor that I have located was Samuel Cheeseman, b. 1773/1776, who married Lucy Harris, b. 1777.

Hi Jean None of my ancestors, at least back to 1757, came from Kent or Sussex. However, that area is possibly where the name originated, so I suspect that if one could find the records one might find that ones Wiltshire ancestors originally came from either of those counties. Actually I was born in Crawley, but my ancestors came from Wiltshire via Surrey. Ian Cheeseman
