Does anyone have info on Linnie Cheeseman and John Danker, probably married in Washington Co. Ohio in 1870,s.
Linnie was a nickname for one of the daughters of Elijah Cheeseman and Mary Chamberlain.
Linnie's true given name would be Sarah Malinda or Alzora/Alsira.
They are 24 and 23 yrs old in the 1870 census.
I would like to know which one married John Danker.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
Greetings from a Cheeseman newbie,
Recently I struck up a telephone and standard mail correspondence with Georganna Klass Willits, a descendant of Elutheer Cheeseman wife of Oliver Besly born 1744. Her family records give Elutheer's birth as having taken place in Long Island, New York 14 February 1749/50, but I do not believe there is any known documentation of that date.
What is known is that she died in Greenfield, NY in 1810, as did her widower Oliver Besly in 1835.
Mrs. Willit's research in the 1980s produced no proof of Elutheer Cheeseman's parents, but she felt that she was probably the daughter of Samuel Cheeseman, because he was from Long Island, and moved to the same area where Oliver Besly lived in Westchester County.
Now she never found the name of Samuel Cheeseman's wife, but Elutheer Cheeseman and Oliver Besly had children with names that cannot be explained by Besly research. One of those names was SAMUEL Besly, another ISAAC Besly, another COLES Besly, strongly indicating that Elutheer belongs with the descendants of Samuel Chessman and Ann Coles Mudge, and one was SOPHIA Besly.
Today, on the Cheeseman Gen-Forum, I found the wife of Samuel Cheeseman identified as Ann COLES born 3 December 1692, the widow of William Mudge.
This fits well with COLES BESLY, among the children of Elutheer Cheseman and Oliver Besly, however this Ann Coles was born too early to have been having a child in
1749/50.
It is possible that I am missing a generation here, and that Ann Coles was Elutheer's grandmother, and also possible that the daughter Sophia was possibly named for her mother.
The name Elutheer/Eletheer/Eleuthere is not common, and I can find no family explanation for the use of this name.
I would deeply appreciate the privilege of corresponding with anyone who has knowledge of the issue of Samuel Cheeseman and Ann Coles, because Mrs. Willits is now very elderly, and I very much want to solve this for her to repay her in some small measure for her kindness to me.
Regards and my thanks,
Sharilyn Whitaker
