Thanks Linda. I do have that information. James is my great grandfather and was a fireman for the city of Columbus and died when his ladder truck hit a street car while on the way to a fire. His wife was Anna Bukoffsky, his second wife. John Gillis was a boarder that my mother knew as Uncle John.
In the 1880 census for Franklin County, Columbus, I found a James Cheesman, age 8, living with a William Cheesman, age 36. I believe this is my James Cheeseman and his father. I have not found any record for William Cheesman/Cheeseman in 1900 or after but do have census records for James in 1900, 1910, and 1920. James died in 1925.
I'll check out Robert Cheeseman and see if I can trace him back and tie him into William. I know David Cheeseman who posts on this board occasionally has a wealth of information on the Cheesemans. Maybe he can shed some light on both of our Williams.

I assume you have checked out the 1920 census? I found it online at ancestry.com and it is very difficult to read, at least the page with James Cheesman. He is 42 yrs old, was b in Ohio, father b England, mother b Ohio, occupation looks like fireman? There is a place of employment listed also but cannot read it.
His wife was ?Rena age 44, b Ohio, father b MD and mother b PA.
Son listed (difficult to read name) but definitely ends in --ald. He appears to be 18.
There is also a John ?Gillis living there, a brother . He was b KY, as were both of his parents.?????
On a separate page in the same cty and city of Columbus, Ohio is listed a Robert Cheeseman, age 74, b England. Both parents b England and is a laborer @ stables.
This may be old information to you. If not , perhaps this Robert is an uncle of James or you may want to pursue him as a possible father of James.
Know you have been searching a long time, as I am also a William Cheeseman (of Ohio)descendant, altho unrelated to yours. Hope this helps.
Linda
Unfortunately, the page of the census with Robert is clear as a bell. Isnt that always the way?!!!!

Looking for further information on William Cheeseman. According to the 1880 Census, William, ca 36, was living in Columbus, Franklin Co., OH along with his son, James, ca 8. William was listed as a farmer and was from England. I have no further information on this William Cheeseman. His son, James is, I believe, my great grandfather who was killed in Columbus in 1925 while going to a fire.
Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

I am also looking for Cheeseman Family in Philadelphia and
Lancaster Co. In your research have you seen a Joseph and
Hannah Cheeseman from N.J. living near your ancestor?
They had a son, William Cheeseman, born about 1845 in
Philly. So far have been unable to find info. about siblings
for the father, Joseph or the son, William. Thanks for any input you may be able to share. JES
Hi Listers,
Thought that I would repost my interests as I haven't seen much activity on this list for a while.
This name is a huge brickwall for me so if anyone has an inkling of a connection I would love to hear from them!
Ada Amelia CHEESEMAN married Alfred William Rose.
Probably in dorking around 1891. I have searched high and low for a marriage entry for them including twice at the FRC with no joy!
Ada and Alfred had 14 children before 1912.
Their last child was Gerald Harold ROSE born in Dorking 22 December 1911.
If anyone has any links to or sightings of the above I would love to hear from you.
Here's hoping.........
Regards
Caroline
