This may be only a coincidence, but in searching for an ancestor named Henry Cheeseman, I purchased a copy of a Civil War Pension record. The name was Henry Cheesman and he was from Beaver Co. PA..(Beaver Falls) He was b in Brighton England and died Allegheny Gen Hosp 1890. His widow was Mary E Cheesman and there were 3 surviving children: Adam P, Andrew SH, and Sadie May.
If any of these names are familiar, would be glad to send more info. He was wounded at Chancellorsville.
My line contains at least 2 Wiliams also! They were from Ohio, but Im sure there was a PA connection. I remember my grandfather mentioning it when I was a child.

Dave: going thru boards in Lucas Co. to check to see exact date of my grandmother's death and found your query directed to my cousin, Lora. I assume you are a cousin also? I am Charles N. Cheeseman's eldest (groan) granddaughter, Patty. My mother is the only surviving member of that family. Her name is Dorothy. Charles was married to Delma Malone in 1924. Their children were: Dorothy (b.1925), Charles Richard (b. 1934 d. 1985-cancer), and Karen Lee (b. 1943 d. 1954-polio). Which of the 9 children born to James Luther and Eliza Belle Cheeeman are you related to? Patty

Actually, what I've really been curious about has been Runey Cheeseman's father, William. Haven't been able to track down that old coot. I've seen several Williams in his era, but never have been sure which was Runey's father.
Thanks for your help!

Thanks, Dave. I didn't think the death date that I had, of April 1968 was correct, since I'd since July in the Social Security Death Index.

There's still a chance that this isn't the same Cheeseman family you're looking for, but after Mother mentioned the name Mynah, and gave me a little more info on Ray/Roy and Arthur's son Charles, I couldn't resist writing more to you.
Looking forward to hearing from you

Oh no, that's not too much information! That is exactly right. I think this IS the right Arthur. Somehow, I thought you said Arthur and Charles were brothers...
So to compare the two stories, we've got Ray/Roy born the right year, Mynah (by the way, she was called Mima...pronounced my-mah... Mime or Minni, depending who was talking), Charles is the right year. Arthur is about right in age.
I will contact you offline. I would love to discuss further.
Thanks SO much in your persistence!
LuAnne

I wish this board had an "edit" feature for messages once they'd been posted. What I meant to write was "I hope this isn't giving you additional information that you don't NEED", not "don't know".
Sorry about that! :)

Arthur Cheeseman was about 2 years older than my grandmother (Ada), and she was born in 1891. He was married when he was young to a woman whom my mother said she thinks was named Mynah (spelling?). They had a son about 1917 who the family always called "Brother" and my mother THINKS his given name was Ray. There was another brother named Charles, and he was born about 1919. When he was small, the family called him Buster, and shortened that to Bus as he got older.
After Arthur and his first wife split up, he took his sons and lived with his parents for awhile. He had another son by someone else later on, but none of our family knows anything about this son.
When Arthur moved to Texas, "Bus" (Charles) followed him and they both ended up dying there. Mother doesn't know if Bus had any kids but she thinks he might've had a daughter in Michigan, where he lived for awhile. She doesn't think he ever married.
I hope this isn't giving you additional information that you don't know, or that doesn't help, but I thought that perhaps it would be of interest to someone.

Thanks so much for responding. I don't think this is the right family, but thanks for helping me rule it out.
The Charles I am looking for was born about 1919 and his father was named Arthur (who was born about 1890, per the 1920 census.)
I can't believe how hard it has been trying to track this one down.
Thanks again!
