Hi:
I've finally found my mothers illusive CHEESEMANS and thought I would post what I have so far:
William born 1789 in Barham married Mary ? approx. 1813. She was born in Bishopbourne in 1789. On the children's baptisms William is shown as a servant, but by 1851 is a grocer/shopkeeper, and appearing in Bagshaws 1847 and the Post Office 1851 directories. He died in 1874, age 85. William and Mary had the following children:
Annie baptised 1814
(still alive in 1881 and living in Barham, unmarried dressmaker. Living with her is her unmarried niece Jane, age 29, dressmaker). I have read that unmarried dressmaker was a euphemism for a "lady of the night" - a first for the family!
Rachel baptised 1816
William baptised 1817 (my great great grandfather)
Jane baptised 1819
James baptised 1820
George baptised 1822
(married Hester ? and had at least Stephen George b. 1849)
Henry baptised 1824
(married Elizabeth ? and has children John b. 1841, Charles b. 1843, Henry b. 1847, Eliza b. 1849, Mary b. 1852 and Joseph b 1854)
Harriet baptised 1825
Eliza baptised 1827
Charlotte baptised 1828
Richard baptised 1830 (died before 1841)
Louisa born approx. 1831
My great great grandfather married Elizabeth Ann FULLER in 1840 and went on to have at least Ann born 1841, William Thomas (my great grandfather) born 1843 and James born 1851.
William Thomas married Elizabeth GOODBAN in 1866 and had William George b. 1867, Eliza Ann b. 1868, John Edward b. 1869, Louisa b. 1872, Thomas George b. 1874, Clara b. 1876 (my grandmother), Alice b. 1878 and George b. 1880. I have this family in the 1881 census.
I will be ordering the Barham parish registers once my LDS centre reopens in the Fall, but in the mean time any connections will be gratefully received! Also if anyone has access to the 1861 or 1871 census for Barham I'd appreciate a lookup.
