Hello everyone,
I am Martin SKELTON and I live in a village called
Stubbington in Hampshire England.
Two years ago I took early retirement. Before I
retired I worked in IT for all my working life.
I have been researching my family lines for the past
two years since retirement. It has taken me from
England to Scotland, France and Australia.
I have recently been following my 2nd great
grandmother's line on my mother's father's side (I
hope this makes sense).
My 2nd great grandmother was an Amelia CHEESMAN and
she was born in 1842 in Winterborne Whitechurch in
Dorset, England. She married a Henry William GOATER.
Amelia's father was a Thomas CHEESMAN who was born in
1811 also in Winterborne Whitechurch. Thomas married a
Mary APPLIN also from Winterborne Whitechurch. Mary's
mother came from Winterborne Whitechurch and her
father came from Bere Regis in Dorset.
According to the 1851 census Amelia had one sister
named Agnes and 4 brothers named Noah, Henry, Philip
and Thomas. All being born in Winterborne Whitechurch.
My next step is to research the parish registers for
Thomas Cheesman's baptism to establish his parents.
I hope this is of use to someone out there.
Regards,
Martin SKELTON.
