what you wanted to know because if you knew that

At last, a Cheeseman list!! Terrific!
There are quite a few researchers out here who are descended from JAMES
GROVER, born 1611 in Chesham, Bucks Co, England and his wife REBECCA.
Many believe Rebecca to be Rebecca CHEESEMAN, born 1628, possibly the
daughter of WILLIAM CHEESEMAN and MARTHA DORSET. Both Rebecca and her
father were supposedly born in Middlesex Co, NJ.
Can anyone out there either confirm or disprove this?...with some
evidence :-)
Thanks for your time,
Dale Updike

Michael,
There was a Cheeseman family in Stockbury Kent as in the early 1800's a
Samuel Cheeseman was witness to some of
the weddings that occured in the town. I researched the Stockbury parish
records through LDS and remember the
family being regularly mentioned in the registers. Hope
this helps.

G'day list
Thank you Linda and John.

Reposting my interests.
My ancestor is a William Cheeseman b circa
1780-1820? occupation a Bricklayer. This
came from his son's marriage certificate.
His son, Edward Frederick born circa 1836
a Gasfitter, had married previous to my
line. He may have had children from that
earlier marriage but if any are unknown
as is details of the wife.
Edward Frederick Cheeseman a gasfitter
Was a widower when he married again in
Kensington London in 1878 to Catherine
Amy Brown. He did not live in the area
in 1871 as far as I have searched to
date. 7 Bramley Road Kensington.
>From this marriage children were
Catherine Eliza Francis Cheeseman
b Dec.1878 at 40 Bramley Road, Kensington.
Edward Frederick Cheeseman died of Typhoid
Jan 1881 at 40 Bramley Road.
So missed the Census and the birth of his son.
In the 1881 Census in July Catherine Cheeseman
and daughter Catherine were listed as Charman
instead of Cheeseman at 13 Silchester Terrace
Kensington, London.
Catherine's occupation was Charwoman - Domestic
Service Cleaner not living in home of Employer.
In September 1881 my great grandfather Edward
Frederick Cheeseman was born at the same address
13 Silchester Terrace Kensington London that his
mother and sister were at for the Census luckily.
In 1883 Catherine remarried to William Henry Samuels
had two sons in 1884 and 1886. Then left England
arriving in Fremantle Western Australia with all four children later having
three more children two girls
and a boy in Fremantle. All seven remain in Western
Australia.
My great grandfather Edward Frederick died in 1962 and
my grandfather said Edward had contact with Cheeseman relatives back in
England but did not know who or where. Neither my grandfather, his older
sisters or other
siblings of which their were seven children in all.
Only one younger sister, my great Aunt is still living
and the others having died between 1989-1999. Surprising
the youngest b 1927 went first.
Well if any one has a William Cheeseman bricklayer
with son Edward a gasfitter they have not located
or have any possible candiadtes I would love to
hear from you.

Good evening:
As encouraged by Michael I'm posting the little I know of my CHEESEMAN
line. I started into family history about two years ago when the urge
to find my paternal grandparents from Northern England got the better of
me. Thanks to many helpful people on Rootsweb I have ended up with an
enormous family history, and found one 83 year old living aunt and many
first cousins that I didn't even know I had. They also were unaware of
my existence.
So thus encouraged I'm now pursuing my maternal line in Kent. The little
I know so far...
William Cheeseman (unknown D.O.B. or place, yet)
Son Thomas William Cheeseman, born Denton, 1844, labourer
married 13 October, 1866, Waldershare to
Elizabeth Goodburn, born East Langdon, 1846
This couple had:
William George, born 1867, Nonnington
Eliza A, born 1868, Whitfield
John E., born 1870, Waldershare
Louisa, born 1873, Waldershare
Thomas George, born 1875, Eythorne
Clara, born 1877, Eythorne, (my grandmother)
Alice, born 1879, Ash
George, born 1880, Ash

Sorry I am a little late on the roll call but as New Zealand is ahead of the
rest of the world it must still be Friday 11 somewhere else!
Here is a copy of my previous postings for the new ones or anyone else who
might have missed them:
My g-grandmother Ann Sarah CHEESEMAN was born on 10 Feb 1838 at 5 Waterloo
Place, Clerkenwell in the parish of St James. Her parents were William,
printer's warehouseman and Mary, formerly HARSTON.
I thought this would make them easy to find in the 1841 census, but I could
not find them at that address. As it was a film I viewed several years ago
when a 'newby' I feel that I should look at it again. However, before doing
so I thought I would try this list to see if any one has a connection with
this family, has an index to the 1841, or has anything on a database which
might help me.
Annie's obit. stated that she emigrated to Australia with three sisters
but I have only confirmed one of these, Jessie Maria who married Geo Clark
REDMAN in Aus. One sister marr. a SMITH and had sons Vernon, Frank & Sid in
Eng.
*******
My grandmother used to correspond with her cousin in England but contact has
been lost with the family. He was Fred CHEESMAN a.k.a Fred Gwyn and 'Dimples
the clown' who lived at Harrow. His nephew Frank CHEESMAN was known as
Frank Norris and he was involved with entertaining the troops during the war
and later worked on cruise ships. Frank's wife Hylda had a Dancing School at
Ilford.
Other information I have gleaned from his old letters are that he had a
brothers Lewis, Alf (died in the Boer War), Frank and a sister Gertie.
Does anyone recognise this family?
*******
Has anyone heard of Frank CHEESEMAN who was a bandsman and musician? I
believe he was the brother of Ann Sarah b1838 and possibly the father of
Frank and Fred mentioned in my other postings.
I look forward to hearing from anyone who has a connection or any further
information
