Hi! My name is Kim and I am descended from America Cheek, Isaac Horton, etcetera. The family buriel ground is behind the home of one of my Aunt's in Wayne county Tennessee...My grandmother, Grace White Holt, did research and was eligible to be a member of the Cherokee Nation DelawareTribe, however she has passed away and her research burned in a surviving family members house fire. I wonder if you have had any luck with her, America's, roll number? I taste feathers~ I have chased so many wild geese.... :-( any help is appreciated!
Kim

I just began to research my Native American ancestry. My great Grandmother was married to a Cherokee named Cheek. The Polish part of the family emigrated to the U.S. then work around up the Mississippi River to Kaskaskia Island. This is where they met some Cherokee from the Trail of Tears and she married one. My Aunt has the pictures of them. The name was Cheek and he was not an Englishman regardless. I also have a major in History and know for a fact that the agents that were registering the Cherokee or any tribe for that mater could not really understand the language so they wrote down English versions of the names given in the Cherokee language which they could not understand and obviously they wrote down names that where familiar to them. This is akin to my friend from Korea who is named Chang Soo Kim but when he came to the U.S. he had to take an English name so he is Thomas over here.
