If you will email me at s3js9938 on gmail.com, I'll be happy to send it to you. Tell me about your Cheeks, please. I have discovered I may, in fact, have a Cheek connection through my Tynes family. I started this Cheek project for a friend and it might turn out to be family. How fun would that be?

I know this George W. Cheek!
George is the son of Elijah and Mary "Polly" (Holtzman)Cheek. The family was from Virginia, around the Luray area. (The counties were changing a lot back then). They moved to Memphis, TN around 1848. It appears that George and his father, Elijah, were very successful businessmen. They owned a couple steamboats (including one named the George W. Cheek) and ran the ferry that crossed the Mississippi just north of Memphis.
I have seen in an index that George along with brother Thomas H. Cheek are buried in St James Episcopal Church Cemetery. I believe their wives are as well. I will also contact you off board.

I am looking for any information on a George W. Cheek born Feb 22, 1829 in Rappahannock, VA and died Sep 17, 1882. My family owns a home directly off the square in Marietta, Georgia and his tombstone is in our backyard, although we believe he is actually buried in the nearby St. James Episcopal Cemetery.
We are trying to learn more about this house and the gentleman who once occupied the land.
Please write at lauriehug(a)yahoo.com.
Thanks.
