Dear Wayne Cheek,
I have information that I am a descendent of Nancy Lnu Cheek whose second husband was Gilbert.
Do you have any information that I can use regarding Nancy and the "Cheeks" that she descended from? I really would appreciate any information you can assist me with!.

I will need to look through my files for names and dates, but Lavica/Lavisa/Louisa (I've seen all three names for her) married a Taylor sometime after her son Joseph Cheek was born and had at least two sons.
I have seen information that states she was 3/4 Cherokee of the Blackwater branch (whatever that means) and that her maiden name was Spottedwood. My grandmother Cheek (Joseph Cheek's daughter-in-law) knew her and described her as "black like an Indian."
This information indicated that Lavisa married Joseph Cheek ("of and old Virginia family"), but I have never been able to identify his father. The marriage information of Joseph's sister Elizabeth states that her father's name was Ephraim Cheek.
I have seen information stating that Joseph's father was Joseph E. Cheek, and Joseph E's father was also named Joseph, but I have never received any information to back that up. (So if you have it or know of someone who has it, please let me know.)
Joseph Cheek's wife Priscilla' middle name is NOT Elizabeth. It is Catherine, Priscilla Catherine Taylor. She shows as Priscilla C. Taylor on the Lee County census. My grandmother Cheek was intimately acquainted with her as Priscilla was her mother-in-law.
