I am still researching the Cheek family. I came across the posts from several years back. I believe this is the family my Margaret Cheek is related to. Unfortunately on ancestry.com others have her married to Wiliam McCrary. In the census Margaret has her father born in Ill. and her mother born in Vermont. John Cheek and Jane Dempsey also have the same birth states. One of your posts has that you have the family bible pased down through the faily from Sarah Catherine who is Margaret's sister. The 1910 census has Jane Cheek living with her daughter Sarah Wilkerson. In the family there is talk that Margaret Cheek is 1/2 Cherokee from her father and 1/2 Irish from her mother. Do you have the same info?
Dear Tina - Thank you very much. I will absolutely check this out. It sounds like my family, but I have to say this is a really bad spelling of Nichols or a very bad transcription. I do have a free year at Ancestry. Thanks again.

I'm also looking for an Eli Cheek, only in the 1800's in Tennessee. This Eli Cheek married a Mary Mobley on 8/23/1846. Do you think there would be any connection to your Eli Cheek? I'd love to hear from you.

This is the same John Cheek. His wife is also buried in the cemetary in an unmarked grave. Her name was Mary. The land was donated by the Cookston family.

My brick wall is my 2nd G-Grandmother/ 2nd G-grand Aunt (yes, I am my own cousin)
Nichols, Comfort b. 6 January 1842 Waynesville, Dewitt county, Illinois
d. December 1919 Bloomington, McLean county, Illinois
Her parents are Amos Nichols & Cynthia Charlotte Zane
Her children are Lee Nichols b. 22 January 1865

I have no record of any marriage for Comfort, but dau. Grace had ‘Grace Taylor’ on the birth record transcription at the birth of her son. But Lee has always been ‘Nichols’.
I had a cousin who had done a lot of research on our Nichols line & she had not been able to find any more info on Comfort, not even a burial place. But this was before computer & the internet, when everything was done in person or by mail. She did write once that her father had told her that his sister Comfort was a very sweet person. Any info would be so much help. Thank you.
