I found these this week at the Sumner Co., TN Archives. This would be the John CHEEK & Martha PERDUE line of Monroe Co., IL.
Sumner County, Tennessee Will Abstracts 1788-1882:
"Perdue, Daniel, 10 Jul 1856 - Wife Harriet & children by her - Sons Wyatt, Joshua J. Perdue, Frederick M. Perdue, Joseph Benjamin Perdue, James Oliver Perdue. Daughters Susan Dunn, Mary C.W. Perdue, Sarah Ann Eliz. Perdue, Lottie & Julia Ann Perdue. Children of first wife Ward Perdue dec'd., Allen Perdue, Polly Clendening, Martha CHEEK (emphasis added), Nelly Bradley, Prudence Brackin, Lee Perdue, Daniel G. Perdue. Land bounding William McGlothlin, William Lynch, Wyatt Perdue, Isaac McGlothlin, J. J. Perdue. Codicil 20 Dec 1856. Ex: Butler, Oliver P. Wt: Hodges, D. G.; Fonville, E. D.; Perdue, Eli. (wo, 448)"
and marriage record - Marriages of Sumner County, Tennessee 1787-1828, Whitley:
page 103 "John Cheek & Patsey Perdew, April 26, 1837, by Robert Norvell"
John CHEEK is most likely one of the sons of Silas CHEEK & Mary NOWLAN. However, since only about 18 years separate them (Silas b. 1791 in NC & John b. Sept. 29, 1809 in TN or KY) there is a chance that John is Silas' (much) younger brother.
I apologize for sending an empty message prior to this one. I hit "send" too soon.
While on a research trip this week to TN, KY and the Willard Library in Evansville, IN, I found these two wills. I was hoping the "Cylas CHEEK" of the first (1810) was the father of my 4th gr-grandfather, Silas CHEEK (b. 1791 in NC, died July 25, 1849 in Monroe Co., IL, mar. Mary "Polly" Nowlan, b. 1794 in NC, died bef 1860 in Monroe Co., IL), but he is not. I thought I would put the wills out on the list as I found them interesting.
Mecklenberg County, North Carolina Will Abstracts 1791-1868 and Tax Lists 1797-1799, 1806, 1807, Ferguson (Will Books A & G respectively):
"93, p 193. CYLAS CHEEK. 31 Oct 1808, prb in Jul 1810 Ct by Jess Cathy and Jason Blann. I lend (sic) to widow Mary Smartt four base born children, namely Robert Finas, Sarah Blake, Rebekah Armstrong, and John Sankston Smartt, and all my estate real and personal. It is my will that my estate be kept together until the sd Robert Finas Smartt reaches 21 and then divided among the four children named above. The mother of the children, Mary Smartt of Mecklenburg County, is to have a good maintenance from sd estate. Sd. children are to be raised well and given "good learning." If one or more should die leaving no heirs from marriage their share is to descend to their siblings. Exrs: William Potts, William Jackson, William H. Smith and Thomas B. Smartt. Wit: Jesse Cathey and Jason Blann."
"738, p 147. MARY (X) SMARTT. 1 Nov. 1833, prb in Nov 1833 Ct. Being in a low state of body, I will to my son Robert T. Cheek $100 to be paid to him from the proceeds of the sale of my land in Orange County as well as my (personal?) property in Mecklenburg except specific items willed hereafter to others. If the sale of the above property is insufficient to pay the legacy to my son, my negro Nelly may be hired out until the legacy can be fulfilled. I give to my son John S. Cheek all my stock of young cattle, a bed and furniture, and a mare; to my dau Sarah B. Cheek a bed and furniture; to my grandchildren, the children of my dau Rebecca A. Marks, (decd?), the negro Nelly and her child William, and until the sd negroes and their increase can be divided among my sd grandchildren they are to be under the control of my son John. Sole exr: Son John J. Cheek. Wit: Hugh McDowell and J. S. L. Watson. B. Oates, CCC."
According to the land records this "Cylas" owned a lot of land in Mecklenburg Co., NC. He even warranted an obit in the Raleigh newspaper:
Abstracts of Vital Records from Raleigh, North Carolina Newspapers 1799-1819, Volume 1:
"858 CHEEK: D. on the 19th inst., in Mecklenburg county, Mr. CYLAS CHEEK, an old and respectable inhabitant of said county. RR Thurs 31 May 1810 3:5."
I have no further information on this line.

I am so happy to finally have contact with a descendant of Josephus Evans! We have always assumed that Josephus was related to our Moses in some way, but had no way of knowing just how.
Josephus was listed in the 1850 census in Franklin Parish, LA, just a few pages over from Moses.
Josephus age 23, wife Artamissa age 23, son Josephus age 6 and son David age 2 are listed on Series M432, Roll 231, Page 291. (Son Henry was on the next census in 1860 at about age 3, 5 or 8...can't make it out. William is 5 mos old.) I can check better on this for you. Do you have access to the census online? If not, I can send you a copy via emai.
Is David Evans of Rankin Co MS father of Moses and grandfather of Josephus? There is an 1846 wil in Rankin Co., MS wherein this David Evans lists his wife Mary, children, Henry, Jefe,(letter s was written like f, so this is actually Jese.), David, Moses, Catherine, John, Joab and William. I am thinking he was Moses, Sr.'s father. The 1855 will of Moses Sr.'s stated that David Evans, his "whole brother" would be executor. Do you have any further information about this David Evans? I see that Josephus named a son David.
Would you happen to know of any bible records?
Please email me at DDavis77060(a)houston.rr.com and let's see if we can piece this Evans line together. I have been at a brick wall with Moses, Sr. for so long.
