Searching for any info on a John C. CHEEK, bn. abt. 1822 in either Virginia or North Carolina. He married Rebecca Mary ann TARPLEY in 1845 in Halifax Co., Virginia. In 1850 there is a John CHEEK listed in Halifax with wife named "Ann", child named Julia and a "Marie" CHEEK age 20 (sister?). This family was in Robertson Co., Tenn. by 1860 and wound up in Clark Co., Arkansas in 1880. Any info as to John Cheek's parents???

Norman Guiling photographed this gravestone in the Everman Cemetery, Everman, Tarrant Co., Texas. Feel free to use the picture for your personal records.
This is one of the 155,616 cemetery photos free at http://teafor2.com
My husband descends from Delilah CHEEK, b. (probably) Lee CoVA, June 1837,
d. Lee CoVA 28 August 1867 (See Ada Grace CATRON, EARLY COURT RECORDS OF LEE
COUNTY, VIRGINIA, Vol I, 1968. Death Record, p. 66.)
This is all information that I have gleaned from census records and other
sources, that I believe is accurate, but do not guarantee and ask that you
offer any corrections or changes needed:
Delilah married John Alfred WILLIAMS between 1858-1860, probably in Lee CoVA
(if anyone could come up with a marriage date and place I would be
thankful). The 1870 Federal Census for Lee CoVA gives their children: Nancy
J. (b. abt 1859), William (b. at Deep Springs, Lee CoVA, 24 Apr 1864, d.
Rockville, Montgomery CoMD 12 Aug 1952), and Caloway (?) C. "Clint" (b.
1866).
I believe they had twin sons on 31 Jul 1867, and Delilah died shortly after.
The twins also died, Emmet, 13 Oct 1867, and his unnamed brother on 15 Oct
1867. (Catron)
Delilah's parents were James (b. bet. 1802 and 1805, d. Jonesville, Lee CoVA
after 1870) and Nancy POTEET, b. abt 1794. Not far from Alfred WILLIAMS'
family on the 1870 Lee CoVA census There is a James CHEEK of the right age
(68) whose wife is twenty years younger than he, and with a young family.
Their children are listed as: Amy, James, Charles, Nancy M., and Samuel.
James' parents were William (b. Culpeper CoVA 06 May 1777 [IGI], d. Lee CoVA
07 Oct 1862 [Catron]) and Esther _____ (b. Buncombe CoNC 25 Mar 1781, d. Lee
CoVA 17 Oct 1862).
William's parents I believe to have been Isaiah, b. avt 1740, and Nancy
_____. If you disagree, please tell me.
Any addition information would be appreciated on any of these folks.

I am searching for the parents of John (C.?) CHEEK, bn. abt. 1822 in either Virginia or No. Carolina. Census has him born both. He married Rebecca Mary Ann TARPLEY in 1845 in Halifax Co., Virginia. No problem. LOL - It's been a while since I posted, I was surprised to get a note back.
Never have been able to find out why people think Cheek is a Native American name when it's so well documented in England. I wish I could remember where it was I saw that coat of arms. I haven't been doing as much research as I used to since I kind of ran into a dead end.
I'm curious, what Cheek have you been researching?
I'm interested in William Cheeke (1732ish-1802ish) of London, Amherst
and Bedford Counties in VA and Surry County in NC, and his
descendants. Antecedents would be nice, too, including any links (if
any) to Sir John Cheke of Pyrgo (a Cambridge professor during the
reign of Henry VIII and tutor and regent to Prince Edward VI; his
sister, Mary Cheke, first wife of Cecil Lord Burleigh (Elizabeth I's
prime minister); and their cousins, the Cheekes of Mottistone estate
on the Isle of Wight.
There are actually two coats of arms -- one each for the Mottistone
and Pyrgo branches.
