Pauline, wow, you did a lot of checking. Thanks.
I do have the census information, but did not know about the land purchase of the the two Evans men. You are right, they most likely are brothers and could very well be mine. I will look into it.
No, I don't know which David Evans is my Moses Evans' brother. The only thing we have is that he was named his brother when he executed Moses' will in Franklin Parish, LA in 1855.
The D. Evans, Sr. (age 60-70)on the 1840 Rankin Co., MS could be father of my Moses and David. I did locate a will in Rankin Co., MS in 1846 which looks to be him. It lists wife Mary and children Jese(?), Henry, David, Moses, Catharine, John, Joab, and William. I'm inclined to believe this is my bunch.
I will check more into these Evans.
Thanks again.
Doris

The William Evans that married Winnifred Cheek (Sister of John Hill Cheek) was born in SC and that William Evans is listed on the 1850 Census of Hinds Co., Ms.
I did some checking but you likely have all this. Do you know which David Evans was yours?? That might help. Also note that a Moses and a William Evans BOTH on the same day in the same Miss.land office obtained land-- that does mean they might be brothers. I did not check on the location of the land.
Your gang was definitely in Copiah Co. as were the Cheek family. John Hill Cheek literally loved right next door to your Moses Evans on the 1850 Census of Franklin Parish, La.

Thanks again, Doris

His name was John Hill Chek and he was born 7 Nov 1820 and died some time befoe 1857 and is listed in the 1850 Census of Franklin Parish, La. He was the son of Henry H. Cheek and his wife Margaret Allison Hill of Copiah Co., Ms. John Hill Cheek was married to Mary who was from SC.
John Hill Cheek had a sister Winnifred Cheek who married secondly to a William Evans (b: 1896 SC) and that Evans family is liste on the 1850 Census of Hinds Co., MS. That is the only Evans connection that I know about.
This is not my family but thought to try to help you out.

Michael McCugh, I knew your grandmother. She was married to my Uncle Thomas McCugh. Aunt Leotha, was a beautiful, wonderful woman and I loved her dearly. I also met and slept over at her parents house and time or two, with one of my McCugh cousins. They called her Mamaw......don't remember much about her...except she was a little fireball, and told us like it was.
Sincerely, Carrol McCugh Stokes
