Message Board Post:
I am looking for information on Mary Lou Carmony born 1884-1885, later married to John Cheek, Sr. and residing in Bell County, Kentucky. I have heard secondhand that she was originally from Rose Hill, Lee County, Virginia, and that she may be buried there; she is not buried with her husband in Kentucky, he remarried after Mary's death. I have also heard secondhand that Mary's parents were John E. and Addie Carmony, also of Rose Hill, Lee County, Virginia. John (born about 1858) and Addie (born about 1861) appear to have been married about 1878. Both appear in the 1910 and 1920 census for Lee County, but I can find no trace of them prior to that, in either Lee Co. or elsewhere in Virginia.
I'd like to find more information on Mary Lou Carmony, as well as her parents, especially if I can find conclusive evidence that ties her to John and Addie.

Hi List
Well what does one say????? The answer was addressed to answer my email
and wonder whether I have done the wrong thing....
I personally do not believe that the exercise undertaken by Jeff was not
profit driven, in fact, I would believe, without knowing the facts that it
more than likely was a break even type of event, along with a few grey
hairs???
I had a reasonable input to the data relating to the Australian CHEEK's and
wonder whether I am fault as well???? Although I must say when changes had
to be made from my end, they were done, however, I am aware of some
incorrect data from my end, due entirely to interpreting the Somerset PR's
and the early writing style of the vicars concerned and I'm going to blame
them????
Again, I say thanks Jeff for a job well done, sincerely

I thought anyone interested in the Cheek family would like to know
that the 1,104 page book entitled "The Cheek Family Chronicles" (published by
Kinfolk Research Press, c.2004) earlier today won the 2005 'Robert Bruce Cook
Award for a Family History Book', as announced earlier this afternoon by The
North Carolina Society of Historians, Saturday, October 8, 2005.
The book, authored by Jeffrey Lewis Williams, was judged the best
family history book in North Carolina this year.
The book covers 700 years of Cheek family history, and 15, 000 family
members -- it's website is located here:

Is this the Capt. John Cheek that came with a company of men from Lawrenceburg, Dearborn co., Indiana to help defend the town of Vernon, Jennings co., Indiana from Morgan's Raiders in 1863?
Have you tried testing with DNA? There is a Cheek DNA Project on the Internet.

I know this post has been here for 4 years but I'm hoping I can still get in touch with you. I have been trying unsuccessfully to determine if Randolph Cheek is my 3G grandfather. I know for sure that Jesse & Mary Catherine Cheek are my gg. Do you know if Randolph is Jesse's father? Jesse's daughter Sarah Elizabeth is my ggrandmother. I have been able to obtain a death certificate for her showing Jesse C & Mary Catherine Cheek as her parents. I have also located Sarah's burial site in the same cemetery that my grandparents are buried. Her grave was unmarked so we never knew that she was buried there. Sometimes the answers are not very far away and we don't even know it!
