living nearby them in 1860 was:
Varnal Trulock 40
Artenesia 35 (her maiden name was Cheek)

I found your John Trulock:
1860 Census Center, Dearborn Co., IN:
John Trulock 30
Alva 25
Stephen 9
Sara 7
male 5 mos.
I did not see Cynthia Trulock who was evidently b: 1857. Was she a daughter maybe from Mary J. who first married a Trulock then married Andrew Cheek??
Anyway, Cynthia was evidently helping care for the children of Andrew J. & Mary J. Cheek.
Happy Hunting!

Does anyone have information of Andrew Cheek who lived in Dearborn county, Manchester in the 1870. He was Married to Mary J. There children were Parnell and Jane. They had a girl living with them whose name was Cynthia Trulock, she was 13 at the time. She would be my grandmother. I am trying to do the family tree on the Cheek family and the Trulock family. I do know that acording to the census that John Trulock ( my greatgrand father who was cynthia's father) married Elise jane Cheek ( who was Cynthia's mother) in 8/30/1849 in Dearborn. On the census they have her name spelled as Ailcy and on another census it is spelled Eley which both are wrong. If anyone can help me out I would appreciate it.

My great-great grandmother was born Jane Lynn Cheek around 1843 in Sequatchie Co Tenessee. She married Mitchell Layman,Lemon it is the same person.
Jane's mother maiden name was Delilah Walters born around 1821.Her fathers name is believed to be Jesse Cheek. They married in Marshall Co.Alabama.
Jesse Cheek was said to have been either Cherokee or Chickama.Delilah is said to have been either Black Irish or Scottish. I know that there are some Cheek's listed with the Chickamaka/Chreokees in Tracy City Tennessee however I do not know if this is the same line.Could you please help. One family member said the Cheeks were from Cherokee Co.North Carolina that left before the removal.Others say they were from Alabama that were part of a Cherokee group that went with Dragging Canoe into the Tennesse area please help.
Thank You

I have been looking for my ggrandfather, John,Edward Cheek.
He was born in West Virginia, according to Pa. census records but I can't find the family in W Va or Va. The year is around 1840.
I am told that he was Senica Indian, even though the Senicas are found in up state New York.
He movred to PA, I don't know when, and married Ema Pearson. They lived in Eliizabeth, Pa. I found them in the 1880 census there. These were my grandmother's parents on my Dad's side. Dad was James Richard Bennett.
Any information or help would be great!
Thanks,
Janice

Susan, I would love to have the records for Cherokee Cheeks. I have just begun to research my Cheek ancestors and only have stories of Cherokee blood handed down through generations. I'm hoping to fine someone from the same family group that has more information than I do. My ancestor was James Cheek married to Jane ? I descend from their daughter Nancy who married Robert Davis. James was born in Brunswick, VA but married in Orange, NC and stayed until he died. Thank you for your help. my email address is: pkr1(a)msn.com
May I ask, my Cheek ancestor is not Cherokee but Rev D.W.Cheek m. Lavina
Roy. Lavina's grandmother was a Cherokee Indian would I be able to find her
on the list.Doris

documentation in the Cherokee records for those Cheeks and their collateral
lines that are documented as Cherokee. These records begin in NC and GA and
end in Indian Territory now OK. They involve the various rolls, abstracts
of census cards, etc. I would love to post them here, but the charts don't
translate well. If anyone is interested, I will be happy to send them
copies.
>
> I know there are lots of folks that claim Cherokee and very probably are
but will never be able to prove it because their people either moved away
from the Cherokee Nation and never petitioned for readmission as citizens or
just never went back and lived as white so long there was no recollection of
them. If your roots are in VA (and remember VA could really mean lots of
other places like NC, TN, KY, IN, etc depending on the time frame) then I
would recommend looking among the people of Buffalo Ridge if you suspect
Cherokee heritage. Those Cherokee that lived in VA (and the DID live there)
had mostly left the area and moved southward by the end of the Revolution.
Those that remained behind are mostly lost forever to the Cherokee records
because their ties were cut. It doesn't mean they weren't Cherokee, but are
now lost Cherokee.
>
> Also, please keep in mind that unless they were very famous Cherokees,
there will be next to no records found prior to about 1800 as there was no
written Cherokee language and therefore no records until the government
began keeping them. There are mentions of the famous chiefs like
Attakullkulla and Ostenaco, The Ridge (Major Ridge), etc, but only because
they were the leaders and interfaced with the whites and white governments.
So don't be too downhearted if the docuementation runs thin!

Have you given any thought to starting a national organization for the Cheek
surname and having meetings etc.
Linda -- thanks for your email and your book order -- and yes, I have
thought about a national Cheek organization; the pros and cons, but am hesitant
that folks might perceive that I am being commercialistic about the whole
genealogy thing --
I still spend about 5-10 hours each day researching our United States
Cheek families, and have added (to my database) over 1,100 new Cheek folks (since
the August 2004 publication of The Cheek Family Chronicles) from census data
and obituaries (I am going blind) ... all listed at my free Rootsweb site ...
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=pilgrim2press ... now at
9,730 Cheek-born individuals + their families.
... Again, thanks for your support, and I would appreciate any further
thoughts (and comments from "The Cheek List") on this potential national
organization -- especially as (like Willy Wonka and his Chocolate Factory) I would
like to eventually "hand off" my huge Cheek database to someone I think can take
care of, and grow it -- i.e. a next generational person who cares about the
Cheek clan ... for that reason I am copying this email to the Cheek mailing
list.

Hello -
I am trying to contact Jennifer Larimore, granddaughter of Robert Royce
Cheek. She left a 2002 Genforum posting about trying to locate her
great-grandfather, Lillard Cheek (1903-1962).
I have found this gentleman, his siblings, parents (in the 1900 and 1910
census), and have his grandparents, etc back another 3-4 generations.
If you can locate Jennifer, please have her email me at
CheekChronicles(a)aol.com
Thanks very much,
Jeff Williams
